Well, I just picked the Burb up from the dealer. Second IP replacement in less than 6 months... Glad to have had that warranty!!

Turned 119k on the way home....

I even managed to get the dealer to relocate the new PMD for me while they were replacing the pump. Cost me about $300 to have them do it :( but hey, I dont have to take the intake off now. The extended the harness, and 'zip screwed' it to the bracket on the drivers inner fender, near the battery. no heat sink, no heat transfer paste

I am working on getting a heat sink, and going to see if their extension is long enough to get it to the bumper or not. If not, I may just put it where they have it... or I suppose I could extend the harness more myself.

For right now... I am just glad it is running normal again. This failure was a bit different. It was throwing the P1217 code, and would run rough mostly when cold, but skipped alot other times too.

I will say, that even with a failing pump, it did a good job of hauling 10k pounds up through the mountains of PA on 476 a couple weeks ago.

Couple Vids I took after driving about 9 hours... was getting a little punch happy LOL

Since its not readable, legend is as follows:

Boost - Engine Torque - Coolant Temp

Fuel Rate - RPM - Transmission Temp

Get a heatsink as fast as you can and mount the new PMD to it with a heat transfer paste. You cannot run a PMD without any heatsink, the PMD itself generates high heat. Otherwise, you will get a fried PMD fast.

Trust me, I am aware... I was quite annoyed with the dealer for not using one. When I asked them about the relocation on tuesday... it was a definite NO WAY. or I would have sent him a heat sink to use. Yestarday..... I called to get an update and he said "Well its gonna be another half day.... he is working on relocating that for you, since your warranty is about up anyway"

I did feel the PMD after driving hte 30 min home, and it was 'warm' to the touch...

thats not the first time i've heard of this dealer PMD "fix". i'ves seen it first hand and its not the smartest idea in the world. no heatsink? i wonder if these dealers would tell me to run my computer with no processor heatsink? bottom line is the dealer fix is junk as they probably hope it dies on you once its out of warranty, then they can get you to pay for it. i'd say just save yourself the trouble and mount it out of the engine bay now before you have a toasty PMD on your hands. the fender doesn't have heatsink in its job description. if the fender was a heatsink the entire engine bay would be cool.

EDIT: the PMD will be as warm as the air in the engine bay. i've felt my heath PMD located per heath's instructions after a long highway run and its cool to the touch. electronics like to be kept cool hence heatsinks on modern computer processors and fans(not for vehicular use period) on those heatsinks.

Agreed Dave... I was just stating that its probably ok for a couple days waiting for the heat sink.
