As some of you may have read from a earlier post i made about my truck all of sudden dropping down into 4th gear for no reason at all. Well i carried it to the dealer today and from what they said it had 4 codes and they were 0752, 0750, 0735, 0700 and they said that they needed to replace the soleinod A cause thats what the problem is. My question is this i have 53,000 miles on the truck and have never had any problems with the transmission and i have always kept the edge ez on level 1 which i think is about 35 or 40-HP, but about a week before this happen i changed both filters and put the new mobil-1 syntheic fluid in it, so is there anyway that the new syntheic fluid had anything to do with this since it has never had syntheic fluid in it before. What has me so puzzled about this is i wasn't doing anything wrong. I was driving down the interstate about 72 MPH and pulling an empty enclosed trailer which was no more than 3500 LBS.

When's the last time you changed your spin on filter?

It's a stretch but since you stated you just changed both filters and fluid about a week before it is possible that a small piece of something got knocked lose when changing the internal filter and it got caught in the solenoid, but it is a stretch.

From your earlier post, you had mentioned that you were in the mountains and had started pulling a grade(s?) in 5th gear. Also, it sounded like you pulled grades in 5th gear as common practice. The few people I know who have limped their Allison trailering, did so pulling a lot of weight or grades in the overdrive gears. Interestingly enough, they threw the same TCM and solenoid codes - although I'm not sure what the P0750 code is. Mike might be able to provide more insight on the codes that popped up.

As I mentioned before, I don't pull heavy or grades in 5th gear, and I have never limped any of my 5- or 6-speed Allisons. As far as keeping up with traffic like you mentioned in order not to get rearended, I cannot accommodate everyone's driving skills (or lack thereof), so I keep it around 60 mph out of state, and between 55-60 mph in California, especially if I'm pulling my race car and equipment (~12K pounds) up long grades like I have through the mountain passes in California, Nevada and Colorado. Good luck and I hope that is the last of your transmission limp episodes.

Kyle,

Did the dealer or you try to duplicate this problem for a a second time after clearing the codes?

MikeL, DieselTech,

P0700 is a givin.. TCM has codes
P0735 incorrect gear ratio 5th.. this is also possible
P0752 is a 4th generation code aka 6 speed.. Shift Solenoid 1 (SS1) Valve Performance Stuck -On
P0750 What is this code?

The last two codes have me confused. These codes should not be coming up in a 05 correct?

I change my spin on filter about ever 10,000-12,000 miles. I don't really know much about any of the codes that were given i just saw the work order that the tech laid down and thats what was on it, but those last 2 codes i possible could have got some numbers mixed up, but i don't think so, and as far as the mountains i was in i wasn't 100 yards into the mountains when this happen and had to finish them off in fourth gear cause it wouldn't shift. After i let the truck sit for a few minutes it did fine and i never could get it to do it again and i even had more hilly roads left. The only reason i even carried it to the dealer was just to get it checked out cause this has never happen to me before, but i did pick it up this afternoon and everything seems fine, but like i said i never could get it to do the samething again.

I would just really like to know if all this happen because of the problems the dealer said or if it really did limp the transmission. What really sucks is that i just spent all the money on new synthenic fluid and the dealer drained it and put there type of fluid in it and i asked them what they used and they said whatever GM recommended, so i know it wasn't mobil-1 synthenic, but after this it makes me wonder if i ever want to put anything else in it.

0750-shift solenoid A malfunction
0752-shift solenoid A stuck on
I really don't know what any of these codes mean or what year they are for, but i just looked them up and i am pretty sure i wrote the correct numbers down.

It sounds to me like one of couple things,

1: The Edge box hiccuped and sent it in to limp.. I have had this happen with Edge products..
2: You just slipped 5th gear P0735.

Give a hold of Ric (AKA: Tazman10). He works for Allison, and might have some insight for you on this.
