:mad:Guys,
I have had some problems with the tranny shifting between 3rd and 4th (Maybe 4th and 5th) gear under heavy acceleration getting on the highway etc. Anyhow, I go by the dealer to have them ride with me to check it out. I have 35,000 miles on it right now and it is bone stock to include the 265's that came on the truck from the dealer. Anyhow, shop foreman walks out and says:
"What size tires are those on your truck?"
I say, "265's just like the day I bought it from here. Why does that matter?"
He goes on to tell me that if they aren't the factory tires, I would have to pay for the time to look into the problem with my tranny. What??? He goes on to say that the only tire sizes that are approved by Chevy are 245's and 265's and that anything bigger would void the warranty. That it changes shift points and the tranny could only be "programmed" for those tire sizes etc.
Now here is the issue, I am literally trying to buy a 6" lift right now (talked to Cognito yesterday) and am just looking for someone to install it here in Houston. I am planning to run 35" tires with 17" wheels.
Questions:
1. How much of this is true regarding warranty? The last thing I need to do is buy a lift, have it installed and then void my factory warranty for the next 65k miles?
2. Has anyone else experienced this before?
3. Is this true about the tranny being programmed only for these tire sizes? (Never heard that before)
4. What the hel- is wrong with my transmission now and will the lift and tires cause me major issues?
