: Installing my Autometer Steering column Gage pod. NIGHTMARE
RyanU 02-17-2005, 11:58 PM anyone installed one of these?? i hoope no one else is goin through what i am to get this thing to look halfway decent and work. i have had to trim about 6 different places with my dremel and then the whole thing wont sit down over my factory column. so i got an idea:weld: i been holding it in front of my space heater till one whole side is flimsy and then hop in the truck and mold it to the column. works pretty well:muahaha: . well gotta get back at it, just got done treating my plastic burn):h
Micheal Tomac 02-18-2005, 11:03 AM how is the visibility of the factory gauges with the autometer pod on the steering column?
any pics?
mole177 02-18-2005, 11:20 AM Yes, pix please. I've never seen column gauges.
ratlover 02-18-2005, 11:21 AM Jeremy (moss022) has it and reported simmilar issues on its excellent fitment:rolleyes:
RyanU 02-18-2005, 12:07 PM ill post some pics tonight as soon as i get my camera back. i have it looking pretty good compared to how it fit originally. it doesnt really obstruct any gauges at all. it kinda block part of the odometer a little but no big deal.
john@dps 02-19-2005, 12:53 AM Thats strange, I have one on my truck and it dropped right on. Total install time with the boost gauge was about 15 minutes. Total time on the pod was about a minute.

moss022 02-19-2005, 11:51 AM mine didnt fit the greatest either. wasnt happy about the 2 sided tape either. first time i put it on, it just poped right back up  . so i just cut and put the tape in certain spots and its held so far. if its anything like that crummie attitude sticky crap, its going to pop in the summer when it get hot. the other thing is now its really really hard to get my dash bezel to come on or off. very very hard for me. once on it looks great, but i had higher expectations on it. i dont think it will last long, looks like i might scrap it for that one that goes inbetween the rearview mirror and headliner. :ro) i guess all i can say is it gets the job done.
wsucowboy 02-19-2005, 09:23 PM where is that "this thread is worthless w/out pics" smilie?
cdhd2001 02-19-2005, 10:24 PM How about superglueing (or CA) velcro to the column and to the pod, then "sticking" it together? I did this with my attitude, attached near the "a" pillar. Works great!:grd:
RyanU 02-20-2005, 03:21 AM i will have some tom, i hafta get my cord to upload them back...LOL
2500HD04 02-20-2005, 09:08 AM Mine would not fit on the 05, The 05 is more square than say the 02. Had the dremmel tool out and the hair dryer, finally tossed it and went with a pillar mount
moss022 02-20-2005, 08:27 PM i will get pics tomorrow, to me it just looks funny. i was hoping for something that was going to replace the top half, not go over it. thats my main problem. the location is awsome, just getting it that way and how its going to react with the heat......well, thats a different story
RyanU 02-21-2005, 10:49 PM well here are some pics, not the best
Micheal Tomac 02-21-2005, 11:10 PM do they have them to fit 2 gauges?
RyanU 02-21-2005, 11:11 PM nope only one pod, kinda sucks. thats why i bought the spa gauges
Micheal Tomac 02-22-2005, 12:24 AM I've seen 2 gauge column pods on dodges
RyanU 02-22-2005, 12:26 AM yea i have too, but i looked everywhere to find a 3 pod for mine but nothin to be found.
sledman 02-22-2005, 11:36 PM How about superglueing (or CA) velcro to the column and to the pod, then "sticking" it together? I did this with my attitude, attached near the "a" pillar. Works great!:grd:
CA??? Sounds like you might be an RC airplane junkie....
moss022 02-27-2005, 06:46 PM sorry for the shaky hand
Micheal Tomac 02-27-2005, 10:20 PM Looks like the pod fits better on the 01's & 02's. If it wasn't for the hazard switch a gauge on the left side of the steering column wouldn't block the factory gauges as much.
WanaDmxsub 02-28-2005, 12:17 AM What do you mean I'm almost out of fuel...I got 24PSI.
UncleFester 02-28-2005, 09:09 AM Funny... i guess I never noticed that the fuel guage switched positions on the new 05's. What a dramatic difference in fit between those 2 years.. ouch...
