My dealer forgot to order the XM on my 05' which I took delivery of last week. Thanks to this forum I got the lead to the kit needed to make it work. I just got done going through the kit and it looks real simple. I plan on taking some pictures as I go as the pictures in the instructions blow!-:t

From what I can see it shouldn't be more then a hours installation. I will post results in the next day when completed.

Are you telling me that it's a simple wired kit added to the stock radio that turns it into an XM radio???

If so how much and where?

Is this another dealer "bambozzle" like the anti-rust treatment (RustyJones) from years ago or the extended warranty program of current years...??? These filthy b@st@rds just won't stop devising ways to pick your pocket...

Thanks,
Mike

It will take a little longer than an hour, but it is not difficult. I've done it twice now.

Forget about mounting the receiver as the instructions provide; I've yet to get it mounted that way. Both times I put it in the proper location behind the glovebox and just zip tied the SOB to the vertical rail (as there didn't appear to be any possible way to get the screws into the bracket given the clearance issues with the knee bolster/glovebox).

You can also use a straightened paper clip or small jeweler's screwdriver rather than attempting to locate a terminal removal tool for the two terminals you have to modify.

Also, I noticed the template was slightly off when I mounted the antenna the first time. The second time I used the template to get the location, then eyeballed the holes to make sure the antenna would be facing straight toward the front (the template had it slightly sideways, FYI).

Also be careful when you put the plastic molding back on the pillar. The little clip that secures it to the pillar is very fragile; make dang sure you have it lined up right because I demolished mine the first time I did the install.

:exactly: The kit is a no-brainer! The mounting of the box is the only part step that can be altered. ):h

As soon as I got done I called in the service and 15 minutes later I was up!!

I made the dealer eat the cost since he screwed it up. I installed it myself and it took about 1 1/2 hours really taking my time.

I appreciate whoever gave me the original link to figure out this solution. I was really bummed out when I left the dealer!

I know that the dealer cost on that kit is $ 280.00.

On the mounting of the receiver, take the clips out, flip them to the back side, now you can put your screws in from the glovebox side, instead of trying how to jamb your hand through the side of the dash to get in there.

Cobra, I flipped the clips and said screw it b/c it was so tight in there. You literally have 3" of room to work, which goes down to 2" when the bolts are first threaded... thus I said "screw it."

I use a 7mm 1/4" drive swivel socket, maybe thats what the difference is. Because its almost a straight shot when you flip down the glove box, but I guess with a normal socket, it could be a pain.

Does anyone know if this kit is only for the Bose Sytem? I would like to add it to my existing CD/Cass. (non Bose).
Thanks.

Rick -

If your headunit has a "band" button, then it will work. It works on non-bose and bose so long as you have a "band" button on the 03 and up trucks.
