: Passlock security light???

I just bought a '03 Sierra 2500HD DMAX. The truck starts, runs, drives and everything else just perfectly. The issue I am having is the Passlock warning light (padlock on a car shaped light) on the dash is on all the time anytime the key is in the on position, it's on solid, not flashing and it stays on till the truck is shut off.

Everything that I know about the Passlock system would indicate that there is a problem with the security system but if that's the case why does it still allow the truck to run or even start up the next time around?

I have had the truck and driven it daily for over 2 weeks now and never had a single problem with it in any regard other than that light being on. I stopped by the dealer and inquired about it and they want $102 just to "look at it"... yeah no thanks. If there is no problem with the truck the way it is can i just somehow tell the PCM to shut the light off? Or force it to shut the light of (remove the offending LED)?

Some background info form what the dealership I bought it from told me, not necessarily accurate:

I was told this truck was a one owner bank repo. Seems probable as there are signs that lead me to believe the original owner had intended to keep this truck for a lot longer than they did. Also seems that the repo guy "broke into" the truck via the driver side door as that side lock no longer works. (which really sucks, any idea how to easily fix this so it still uses the same key as the pass. side and the ign.?)

There may have been a remote starter on this truck at one point but I'm not sure. How can I check this? I did not receive a key fob for one nor did the dealer say that it had one, this is only speculation.

Thanks in advance,
Tyler

I don't know anything about this, but I looked in my owners man. "02" and it says to check the fuse (which I can't find) or see your dealer for service. Check your owners manual, maybe you will have better luck.

Without a scan tool you will never know for sure what is going on. i think the problem has to do with the content theft deterrent because the truck is still starting. I would have the drivers door lock checked becuse there is door key switch in the latch. I hope this helps.

I would say the last owner had issues with it and disabled the passlock system. There should be a yellow wire going from the ignition switch, If it has been cut the light will stay on but the system is disabled. I dont know if this is true in the trucks but I have disabled it on cars by cutting the yellow wire while the car is running.

Get the driver'slock fixed. That is likely the problem. If indeed there is a remote start in the unit, they may have put a resistor inline and permanently disabled the passlock. But that should put the light out. The lock has got to be it.
