I own a 95 2wd Chevy Suburban diesel. I bought a new fuel filter because I wanted to switch it out. I bought it from Advanced Auto Parts, just a regular replacement fuel filter. I went to go install it myself with a friend who knows all about cars and what not. We found the fuel filter underneath the drivers seat running along the undercarraige (correct?), but the filter i bought from advanced auto parts was way to big to fit in the metal enclosure. I called them to see if they gave the wrong part and they hadn't.. What am I doing wrong? I dont want to spend 30 or 40 to have someone else install it when I can easily do it myself.. Thanks for any help

Welcome to the site, mark.

Yep, you have a problem... you need to spend a whole bunch of time looking in the FAQs in the 'sticky' at the top of the forum... there is pictures and everything. You can lok stuff up...

Like where is my fuel filter?

What you guys "think" is a fuel filter is actually an in-line fuel pump; notice the wires running off it? It is responsible for getting fuel from your tank to your injection pump (the thing on the top and front of your engine, slightly to the passenger side, with the shiny cylinder sticking up (looks like a roll of quarters with a hex nut on top).

Your fuel filter is under the Plastic Turbo=Power cover, dead centre on top of the engine, toward the back.

Don't try changing it without reading the FAQ on how to bleed the filter or it will never run again and you and your buddy who knows gassers will need to get a tow truck or a farmer to get it going.

And by the way, I'm not kidding... there are parts in the fuel filter housing that you can screw up. It isn't hard to do properly, but look at the pictures, first. Really.

No, I don't hate anybody... glad you found it, glad you found us!

After you get done and all cleaned up, come on back and fill out your signature so we know what you're driving, and spend about a year reading up on all the cool stuff you can do to your truck!
