Has anyone reflashed thier 05. What was the out come. My has a slight surge at low RPMs, and makes a squeak chirp type sound constant audible at 1500-1900 RPMs. Saw lots of 04.5's on the forum with a good out come. but not much on 05's.

My 2005 Duramax also has a slight surge at low RPM's. I took it to the dealer and they said I have the latest updates available. They also checked the balance rates for the injectors and they were in perfect shape. It appears GM does not have a fix for that at this time according to my dealer.

The only update WAS for the "Change fuel filter" message on the DIC, but there was a bug in it that set a SES light. Rather than fix it, GM removed the calibration...

I too have somewhat of a surge at very slight APP...

I took my 05 to the dealer about a month ago and had them check for updates. They said I needed one update, I no longer have the parking lot surge, seems to run a little smoother, etc. Before I even left the dealership though I re-installed my Predator on 85, so I'm not sure how it behaves stock. I bought my truck in early November, I've never looked to see when it was manufactured, maybe It's a very early '05 and I didn't have the latest update from factory? Hard telling. Everyone says its just for the 04.5's but I have an 05 and I had a reflash.

I thinks a lot of the 05's, including mine, and several that I have driven have the problem. Our diesel tech says that there is no reflash avail for the 05's as well. Hopefully they will figure something out.

Count me in for this same situation. I wasn't expecting the truck to act this way traveling at 70mph though, but it happened. I guess we have to live with it.....for now!

Are these updates available or does my truck already have them? Here is what my VIN shows under the engine tab.

My truck is a 2005 Duramax that surges at low idle. I took it to the dealer and they said I have the latest updates. I am also having problems with the Edge with Attitude monitor. When you kick it down it makes a knock like it is going to throw a rod. Edge said in some cases the update is taking care of it but the dealer said I have the latest software. Edge said they will have an update for the truck soon which will fix the bad noise. The low surge problem is GM's problem to fix. Any help is appreciated.

Just came from dealer today. Had them check for latest updates. Truck was up to date according to the TECH 2.
Talked to the manchanic, and he mentioned that he heard the truck's have 3 Throttle Position Sensors.(I think that is what he said? 3.) They don't stay synchronized, so they fight each other, result, "surge." Can't rember if he said any specific RPM's.

Hopfuly GM is getting on top of this and have a fix very soon!
Surge driving me CRAZY!

The surge is no big deal, if anyone with comments on it just tell them you installed lumpy cam!

I had my '05 reflashed ~4 weeks ago. Engine noise less and fuel mileage as increased 1/2-1 MPG at high way speeds. No parking lot surge. Entire system seems smoother. So far I am happy with my reflash.

This is a GM web site, if you enter your vin number and an update comes back--- it's available, it's specific to your vehicle. I believe, this is where the tech's check as well for updates.

I bought my truck mid. Dec and the SES light came on with about 1400 miles. Turns out I was setting the fuel temp sensor code P0181. She also smoked a bit on moderate accel. Anyway, they did a reflash for the fuel temp as well as the fuel rail pressure reduction. They ended up keeping it all day because as soon as the reflash was done, the battery light stayed on. GM sent over a new program later that afternoon for that issue. Smoke and noise have reduced, but I do have the "parking lot" surge as well as the chirping from about 1600+ RPM. I am going to bring these issues up during the visit next month for the brake recall.

I had my 2005 reflashed. I took delivery in August. I'm on my 3rd tank around town since the reflash and mileage is up 2mpg. The mild surging I experienced is gone as well.

Im a gm tech I also have a 05. the reflash is for parking lot surge, engine noise, and white smoke at idle . I reflashed mine and the surge is better, engine clatter is bout the same, but still smokes at idle not all the time. i guess i better look at the balance rates.

Jonk K - So you still have the surge after the reflash...but it's better? Mine is not bad, in fact, I only notice it once in a while. It's something that I would not have a problem living with.

As for the balance rates, what should one be looking for? What is considered 'Normal'. and what would indicate a problem?

Thanks.

John K

definitly better as far as the surge goes. as u said i only notice it once in a while. to view balance rates u must use a tech2{gms scan tool} or a scanner to view engine data. balance rates are used to try to find faulty injectors by showing a higher value than the others to maintain smooth idle john

I do have access to a Tech 2, and have looked at the balance rates already. The problem is that the guy using it knows nothing about diesels. That's why I was wondering what would be considered 'normal' and what to look for if there was a problem.

D/A power, You have the chirp sound too? It is a constant chip from 1500-2000. Any ideas what it may be. When you go to the dealer let me know how you made out with that. Doesn't seem to affect anything just want to know if it is a bad thing or not.

max82,

Yeah, I have that little bird under my hood somewhere. I am not sure what it is, but my first thought is that it is with the belt or one of the tensioners. It does not start until about 1600 rpm, and is pretty much constant from there up. Although on moderate accel. it is masked by the engine but I'm sure it's still there. I am going to mention it when she goes in for the brake recall (hopefully soon). I'll let you know what I find out.
