Ok, enough is enough with the small talk, Has anyone actually run the LLY with out a cat and EGR for longer than this conversation? I hear leave the muffler, or leave the cat one or the other but what about running an aftermarket exhaust with out the cat and EGR???

Is there a manufacturer like Edge or Banks that is leaking out what to do?:help:

there are several that are running catless with existing muffler and with whole new exhaust as well. They also have the egr blocker plates and the finger stick to eliminate any codes, if any.

then there are those running with a cat back system. And some of them have the egr blocker plate and finger stick as well.

i just received my mbrp intermediate (downpipe) 4" to replace the pipe with my cat. therefor i will be catless in the morning. i will be looking into getting the rest of the exhaust done soon. i run the egr blocker plate and finger stick on mine as well. no alarms.

if you plan on going the route with a new exhaust, i would recommend the egr blocker plate and finger stick. the price is relatively cheap. you can install them first and then get the rest of your exhaust. http://www.dieselperformanceparts.com/ has the downpipe replacing your cat for about $124. It is a 4" exhaust in case your banks exhaust is a cat back system.

I know this is probably a stupid question? But what about warranty issues?
The finger sticks you guys are talking about, what are they and what is their function?

they mask the codes from the egr being blocked, aftermarket intake MAF and exhaust. as far as warranty issues, you could always replace the downpipe with the original when you go into the shop. that way you will have a cat sitting in the garage when needed.

as far as the egr blocking plate, kroutman has one that he sells which when installed, you wouldn't know it is there.

as for the finger stick, contact fingers and you could install it in your truck and hide it very well. they would never know it is even there. i could email you mine and show you how it looks when it is a finshed install. fingers has some threads showing the installation instructions and a picture of the finished install of his. But i do recommend soldering everything as it looks better and makes for a solid connection.

from what I have personally learned, read, and been told... as long as you have some type of back pressure then the egr will be ok, but most are installing complete free flowing exhaust and for that you will need the block off plate and finger sticks if you don't want codes to trip the SES light. They usually don't trip it right away only after many codes are stored.

I tried the complete exhaust and had bad results. I am now goign to try just the LB7 front pipe (no cat) with my stock muffler and see what happens.

for fingers and other stuff..like someone said.. grab some coffee, do a search and have fun. all your questions have been answered several times over in this forum.

good luck!

installed finger stick, blocker plate, and 4inch cat/delete mbrp system. no codes all easy install. if needed can remove stick, blocker plate and reinstall cat in less than 1 hour. well worth the seat of pants power gain i got.

with the finger stick installed and heading back to the dealer, if I install the egr again, will it operate normally? or just do nothing?
