one of my friends has a 350 vortec 5 speed 4x4 reg cab long bed, the same as mine, with the same trans. setup also the same, low and overdrive, anyways somebody told us the other day we should hook em, so it began, lol, most people said id drag him eaisly but a couple seemed to think he could take me. we both talked today and decided it wasnt worth screwing somthin up but im still curious as to how i woulda did. we own a couple 350's and they are pretty stout engines, espically with some 4 10 gears behind them. everyone says iv got one of the fastest diesels around but their not to sure of my pulling power, what does every body think woulda happened(besides our trucks possibly fallin apart)

It might have depended on the terrain. Soft and you would have dug in. Hard and you might have heard the squeel of burning rubber or the snapping of drivetrain parts.

How about a hill pull with a heavy trailer up a long grade from a stop. Speed and time.
pretty pratical and not too risky. Even tho at TDP pulloff a few years ago a guy did melt down his 6.5 on the hill.

Before my '95 Diesel Tahoe I owned a '97 2door 350 votec gas Tahoe. Basically the same vehicle with different powerplants. Let me start by saying that I will never buy a gas powered vehicle ever again. Stock to Stock the diesel stomps the gas in everything including fuel economy. Modified to modified the diesel only embarrasses the gas further. As for dollar to dollar the only way a 350vortec will come close to the performance of the 6.5 is by adding a supercharger FOUR grand last time I looked, if you put that kind of money into your 6.5 you'd be blowing away supercharged BIG blocks. Do you see where this is going. WORLD DIESEL DOMINATION!

I traded an '85 Cherokee with 2.2L Diesel Turbo powerplant for a later model with the 4.0L. Bad move, power was better, more than a vehicle that size needed, but mileage was not even half what I was getting before. Since then, I've only owned 6.2s and 6.5s, mostly for the mileage benifit, and the familiarity of that engine. Long and short, Diesel Kicks Gass!:devilfing

I think your 6.5 would have spanked that 350. My first 6.2 transplant was into a 1970 blazer and that was back in 85. It would pull a trailer up a long grade every bit as well as my previous 400 hp 327 and not work as hard doing it. Then came a series of 6.2's with turbo's and I would usually finish within inches of a built 454 at the local sled pulls and the only real difference I could see was that the 454 had an auto and I was manual and I hooked so hard that my engine would just shut down. Had I run an auto, I am certain I would have beat the 454. So in my opinion that poor little 350 wouldn't stand a chance! Next time someone wants to compare their gasser to your diesel tell them OK but lets match them RPM for RPM another words from 1000 to 3200 and then see how much power they have:exactly: :muahaha:
