The Engine light has started coming on, I guess I have to get a code reader to see what that is al about, huh?
Is there a gadget one can buy that calculates your mileage instantly while driving? I have one from the factory in my Cadi, I love it.

Try ScanguageII for OBD2 - reads and clears DTC's, displays 4 user-selectable data points - check'em out at scanguagedotcom

Wow, and only $169.00. That would work for my truck. I wonder if there is such a tool for a vehicle without a computer onboard, like a 70's car etc.

most part stores can/will read codes for free, capture the code and we can help you figure out what to do with the info.

Most 70's vehicles may or may not hbe smart enuff to grab/set a code, many 80s cars have tools you can buy, OBD-I GM codes can be read with paperclip jumpering across pin A & B of the data link connector, count blinking check engine light sequence and you'll know the stored engine faults.

I put it on my son's '99 Dakota 318Magnum auto 4wd - showed 1-3mpg at every take-off, ~21mpg max on the hi-way, seldom less than 18, then back to 1-4 on the service road at the lites - #2son was gettin' ~15mpg avg, mostly way less, and he has a Schwartzenegger right foot - the SGII showed why..............
SGII is an inexpensive programmable digital dash instrument, capable of displaying 4 values of most any parameters the PCM is seeing, incl Boost, fuel rates, etc - no EGT, you'll need a probe and guage for that - I bought one each for the two sons, one for the Jeep and one for the Toyota - they're fairly nifty instruments for the price and functionality - me, I don't have an OBD2 vehicle........well, didn't have, but I've got professional bi-di scantools for troubleshooting, and would still get the SGII for everyday driving - it is selectable for US\Asian\VW OBD2 protocols, but I haven't tried it on a GM 6.5, having none in close proximity
If anybody wants to be the GM6.5 guinea pig, get it directly from SG so you'll get the latest version (it's cheaper from several vendors, but has not been latest version in some instances) - then PM me with any questions B4 posting likes and dislikes based on unfamiliarity - we want valid testing for consumer reports, as it were....................
