I just recently changed my fuel filter on my truck. With that said I'm going to start using biodiesel. Now, how many miles do I go before I change the filter again? Everyone is saying that the bio fuel actually starts cleaning the fuel system. Also, other posts are saying to put in an additional filter. Is that necessary? If it is, then where would I mount the second filter. I imagine it would be an in-line filter. Anyone with any experience with biodiesel I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Robert

If you are using commercially produced ASTM standard Biodiesel you should be fine with your stock filter set up. If you are using home brew you can filter it before you put it in your tank. If you want to do an additional filter on your vehicle a lot of folks put them on the frame rail near the lift pump. I am not sure what the consensus is as far as before or after the pump. You might want to keep a spare filter handy for the first couple of months in case your filter gets clogged. I changed my filter after first tank of bio and then again three tanks later and didn't have any problems. Now I just do it every 10K miles or so as part of my maintenance routine.

GPI filters and cimtek filters are the only 100% biodiesel compatable filters on the market. If you use a FASS or other similar hi-performance system you can simply use one on the lift side saving the changing of the stock filter. My processor has a 2 micron GPI filter on it so i just fill directly out of the processor into my fuel tank.
