: New vibration....need help please.
flyin99 05-25-2008, 11:57 AM Just installed the Nexus gauges in my truck. Did the Hoot method on the EGT and installed the SD intake for boooooooost gauge.
Driving down the road..all is well, so I bring it home. Start it back up and take off down the road and about a mile out or so, it has a vibration, I can feel in the brake pedal and the gas pedal. Can't feel it in the seat, floor or console. I stop the truck and it has this quick vibration at idle and at about 1300 to 1700 RPM in gear or Park. Raised the hood and you can really feel it on the IC tube, where my SD intake is and also over on the black plastic air intake, along with the resonator thing on top. What the heck is going on here. It's enough that it tickles you foot, when on the brake pedal, or throttle...If you are parked, it gets a little worse when you try to turn the wheels, although this may just be because of the engine slowing some when doing so........This is wierd..........Anybody?
axlenut 05-25-2008, 01:09 PM Did you check all the engine and sensor connectors after you did your work? Maybe one became dislodged that had nothing to do with what you were working on. Recheck everything to be sure it's properly connected and tight. If you installed a complete new intake, check the Air Flow sensor to be sure its connected. I understand that some intake mods will cause problems until the ECM is reset or relearns due to the air flow change. Some say just cycle it several times, and others say disconnect both batteries for 30 seconds or so.
Then there is the possibility that it's due to something coincidental and has nothing to do with anything you did (I hate when that happens). There is a valve that balances the brakes and steering hydraulics, when it fails I read that it can actually activate the brakes when the steering wheel is turned. Doubt that's it though.
I'm still trying to figure out why I hear a noise that sounds like an electronic phone ringing faintly when I have the air conditioning fan on! I know it isn't because I detailed the engine compartment. :)
flyin99 05-25-2008, 03:12 PM I can't find any sensors loose.......I was on the driver side installing the SD intake.......I didin't get near the AFM or anything over on the pass side. You can feel it the most(even through the floor and seat) at 1400 RPM.....driving or sitting still. If you rev it, it revs, vibrates at 1200 to 1600 or so, then smooths out the rest of the way up the RPM range, then on the way back down, same thing........smooth, until the 1600 to 1200 RPM range, where it vibrates again, then at idle, you'll feel it come back. Driving with tow haul on made no difference.... I was wandering if the turbo was dying, but it makes 25 psi at WOT and whistles like a birdie......Also, it may be in the tranny or something, but I can feel the same vibration at the tailpipe.........wierd ain't it?
flyin99 05-25-2008, 04:00 PM Just for giggles, I took the SD intake off and put the stock blue boot back on the IC tube.....vibration is all but gone :eek::eek:. I noticed when I install the SD, that it was a little long on each end and caused the turbo and the IC tube to not be in perfect line with each other...........this is what caused vibration.......??:cool: Would it have been because the airflow in the tube and turbo wasn't a straight shot? I know that the tube wasn't leaning on anything, or so I thought.........Might trim the SD and reinstall, just to see what happens.:D
flyin99 05-26-2008, 11:08 AM I must have leaned on one of the brake assist lines or something. Checked this morning and it still has vibration, although not near as much as yesterday. I don't understand what that is all about, but it is what it is. I was starting to think I had killed my turbo with shavings, but I'm doubting that now. Still going to do some searching...........As long as you're over 1500 RPM, all is smooth.............I dunno:o:
JC1843 05-26-2008, 12:46 PM If the tube is to long and is contacting the turbo-- it will be like a solid piece of pipe and cause vibration. It needs at least 1 inch of space on the end.

I was thinking that also.......that's why I decided to put the stock IC boot on for now. Vibration is much less, but still there. It also seems as though it is at a faster rate than just an idling engine, if that makes any sense. It would seem to be more of a bzzzzzzzz, without the noise part.......but like I stated earlier, it is what it is. I appreciate the help though :) Thanks!
Sneeze480 05-26-2008, 02:14 PM Check all your non-compressed intake components, especially the piece that mounts directly to the turbo...Make sure they are tight and aligned correctly. Also check the "resonator" (i think its called)... the part that says "6.6" on it. Make sure its secured properly with its alignment tab on the driver side in the correct position, and the stud/grommet at the front.
Hope this helps, just sounds allot like the intake is vibrating from a specific amount of airflow.
