Let me start by saying thanks, there is a ton of great information on this site. That being said, I have a few questions.

As far as the replacement injectors on the special warranty: is there anything special with the design of those injectors that would not make them susceptible to subsequent failure? Are they prone to the same body and nozzle fatigue that the OEM ones are? I read in the warranty that the VIN is only covered for a total of 8 replacement injectors. Should I expect the replacement ones to give out early as well?

For the LB7, I've read that some come equipped with EGR and catalytic converter. I am assuming this was based on the original destination of the vehicle, i.e. California. Is there a way to tell from the VIN if the vehicle has been built with an EGR and cat? I've seen on the VIN check forum an RPO code NF2 on some of the reports. Federal Emission System... Would this be applicable to the LB7? Is this the EGR and cat?

Thanks again. This site has kept me more than occupied lately, much to the chagrin of my wife ;)

Not sure how to answer you question. I just bought a 03 GMC, has no cat but does have EGR. I really like the truck so far, inspite of the price of diesel.
My truck was sold originally in CA but why no cat? I do not mind at all, in fact I would like to loose the EGR too.
It seems like new injectors are improved and do not have same problem. I am in same situation as You. Truck is running great at the moment. If You have to replace them I would make sure they are not old stuff, the better ones have a different serial #.
Hope You can get more answers.

Search for posts and replys by Oddplanes. There is some indication that late last year they changed something with the latest reman injectors. No one has really posted any specifics or proof that I remember seeing.
Oddplanes had test injectors in his truck.

not sure about this, maybe somebody will chime in...

I am pretty sure all the LB7's come equipped with both a CAT & EGR system. To remove the EGR from the factory, the intake cross over and turbo piping would have to be produced differently... I doubt GM would pay to do that. I think that NF2 means how the computer responds to EGR problems. Some trucks bound for less stringent states with the Federal Emission system will not trip a CEL when there is an EGR malfunction, where California emissions system will cause a CEL to be triggered.

I think if you do a search...you'll find various service life of the replacement injectors. Some haven't lasted very long...others have been running for 10's of thousands of miles.

My LB7 has never had a Cat nor an EGR. I think for us early owners...only the Cali. trucks would have any polution equipment. I think it's a different story for LLY and up motors. To block the EGR...do a search on "Blocking Plate and Finger Stick"....this is the solution for the EGR. The Finger Stick takes care of any messages or error codes...it's wired into the sensor system. My father installed these in his 2004 and most recently his 2006 and has never had any issues.

Good Luck,

Wayne
