I just bought a 2007 2500HD with about 12K miles on it. The VIN check showed a GMPP on the vehicle.

Since I bought from a dealer (not the original selling dealer) any ideas on how I can get it transferred. It is worth enough for me to do some work and try to salvage it. The worst case scenario is the original purchaser cancels the contract and seeks a refund.

Any ideas.

The original owner might be retracting his GMPP warranty on that vehicle and will get the pro rated difference back. I cancelled mine when I traded in my last truck, took a couple of weeks to get the check.

I was told this is what he is going to do. I figure I will wait a bit and do another vin check to see what it says. If it is still there I might try to track him down.

Why not wait until the 36k mark and then buy the GMPP, this is what i did and the truck is now covered bumper to bumper until 110k or another 3 years from when it hit 36k. Either way you will have to buy it, i doubt the previous owner will just give it to you if it was money out of his pocket.

Be sure and buy the new GMPP BEFORE it hits 3 years or 36K. The factory warranty MUST be in place to add GMPP.

I know there are online dealers that sell them at a discount. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

I could not find any true discounted deals from the online dealers. You can do OK if you research several third party warranty suppliers and then go in and negotiate with a few of your local dealers to see who is willing to price match or discount to a reasonable price point. Good luck. I am currently going through this. Do your homework and learn how these things work before negotiating with the dealer. Also check consumer reports articles on aftermarket warranties. In the end nobody can tell you what is good for your individual situation. Study, compare, negotiate and make a decision based on your unique situation.

I won't be going aftermarket. Factory or nothing at this point.

I think that you really get what you pay for so look closely at the plan that you select. I picked up the Value Guard with a $200 deductible and so far have not found it to cover much. I had the transmision hoses replaced and they were not covered. It did cover part of having a front wheel bearing assembly replaced.

I was in a rush when I signed up and took the cheaper route. I was almost at 36000 and would have gone over on the next unexpected trip. Long story so I signed up for something fast so I could get on the road with coverage thinking about transmission or transfer case specifically having holed 2 other transfer cases on my '01.

So I talked to Black Pontiac and they said I can only go to 72K miles since the truck is over 12 months old and has 12K miles. The 72K mile warranty would start when I purchase the contract so it would not be in addition to the 36 month warranty.

Is that correct?

I picked up the 75k, 36 month GMPP about 3k before the factory warranty was up and the truck was 1.5 years old. I dealt directly with the owner of the dealership and he told me mine would go in effect until 36k when the factory warranty was up. He may have changed the paper work so it would happen this way so i dont know, he is an old friend of my wifes family so maybe that helped.

I just bought a 2003 that has 70,000 miles on it. The owner gave me the 72 month, 100,000 Major Gaurd. Sent $50 to transfer and got back an agreement that wil last until next year. It has a $100 deductable, the PO used it some. Should I go in and start nit picking? Only have a year but seemed like good insurance.

And I know one person who got snagged doing it.

Same thing with a 2008 Hummer H2 friend bought. Saw it had GMPP - the best one - Forged signature, 2 months later gm came back and questioned it. The original owner was fighting to get his prorated money back.. Big big mess.
