Im a newbie here, new truck too.
Finally got rid of my pizza cutters, and got some BFG 285/75/16's. Much better looking, these should've some stock! But I noticed what seems like a huge loss in power. I expected some, but it seems like my shifting is all outta wack, turbo lag seems real bad, and just a real pig outta the hole.
What is the best way to remedy this? Can I do a gear swap to make everything better, or do I simply just need more power now?
I have been reading alot of threads about the predator, and I think its something i would be interested in. Im I right in assuming the Predator can fix my speedo as well? I also tow a heavy boat in the summer, will the Pred suffice?
Any suggestions? My truck is a 2005 Silverado Crewcab shortbox.

i got the predator and i noticed anly a small power loss with the 285's but a huge one with the 315's. yes the predator will fix your speedo. and if you plan on towing only use the 65 hp tune when the load is about 5,000( considering the tires you got try to stay around 5,000) pounds. if you need to tow more use the 40 hp tune.

:welcome: Predator and give it time for the tranny to figure out the new setup. About 100 miles or so and shifting should be fine.

I put 285's on mine and it took about 250 miles for it to come back to life, feels close to normal now. But after driving it a while you get use to it so I don't know if the tranny has changed or I just got use to it.

I never drove mine with the stock tires....Dealership put the 285's from my last truck on this one before I even sat in the thing....
I would look into a programmer before changing your gearing....The cost of gears and install would be more expensive than it would be worth, in my opinion....Since you can buy a programmer for less than 400 clams to reclaim your power, it seems like the right way to go...

Welcome to dark side of a Duramax:muahaha: Get a Predator for a little more power. That's all you will need:deal: . I promise:laugh_exp . Oh and start a savings account for mods.
Seriously though. I run 285's with the Predator and it's PLENTY fast. It was fast before the Pred. with 285's.
You just need a programmer that will allow you to adjust for tire size and you'll be happy again. I'm not sure if you can retain the stock program and adjust only for tire size with the Predator. If that's what you want, I'd check with them. I know the PPE Xcelerator allows you to adjust only for tire size but the tunes that come with the Predator seem to be preferred by consensus on this site. I am currently running the Predator 40 HP tune modified for the 285's and love it.

ZaZa - you can modify the programing with the predator to run stock with just tire and speed limiter changes...I have no idea why one would want to do that (might as well add the power too :D ) but it can be done

When you get into tire sizes that require suspension lifts, the gears make a bigg*&& difference. Not that expensive either, local shop in sacramento 1100 for front and rear and it should only take a day.

Ive just come back to Chevy from a 04 PSD 6.0 (had an 02 Silverado gasser). It was lifted and had 315's and had loads of power, put you in your seat power. No programmer either. My step dad has a stock 04 PSD 6.0 and his truck didnt seem any slower than mine. The Dmax isnt that down on power compared, I guess Im curious why it feels like you lose so much power going to a larger wheel on the Chev? All rigs running 3.73s.

I didn't notice any loss of power with my 285s. It seemed fine to me. But I don't tow 20k either.. However, I never had a problem pulling 16k or less... Now that I got a predator, it really has no lack of power.
