Bought a Ranch hand back bumper:ro) with the reverse lights on it and I am wondering where to splice into to make sure that the lights only come on in reverse. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

should be a reverse light wire in the 7 way trailer plug. just splice behind it.

Should be the wire going to the center post. Light green.

Did this just this weekend.

The light green wire on your trailer plug is for the back up lights. Use this for the trigger to your relay.

The large red wire is 12v constant, use this to power you lights. If you dont have voltage to the larger red wire you will have to put a fuse in the fuse box in the engine compartment, it is a 30 amp.

There may be a red plastic looking plug (shunt) with a B+ on the top of it. This is where you place the 30 amp fuse to make your large red wire to your trailer plug hot. This will make Stud #1 hot.

Super simple to do when you have the trailer plug. :grd:

The green wire should handle the load without relays. It's there for backup lights on a trailer. I have 55W rear auxlillary lights hooked up to it with no problems.

Ehhh, I dont know, thats an awful small wire, but if its working for you than:beerchug:

I'm running 100 watt Piaa fog lights for mine and no way I was going to have that little green wire handle the load. Especially when the larger guage 12v wire was just inches away.

Plus my trailers have stock backup lights on them so it may have been too much, didnt want to chance it.

Granted, It may be pushing it with my 55W'ers, but for just regular backup lights he should be ok. I did the put er in reverse feel the green wire test (highly technical) with good results. If I blow a fuse I will relay it.
