: Recall 08142 on '07 LMMs ??
Ted White 05-21-2008, 07:25 PM Does anyone know anything about a recall, number 08142, on '07 LMMs ? I haven't received a letter from GM yet but my local dealer called and advised me that there is a recall in the system as of about a week ago and I should book an appointment. The person who called didn't know what the recall was about.
Ted White 05-21-2008, 07:44 PM I've partially answered my own question. A service advisor called me back to tell me it is a programming issue with the DIC and is not urgent - could be done at the next service. He didn't know what problem the reprogramming was meant to fix but the truck is booked in tomorrow so I'll soon get the whole story.
badinblack 05-21-2008, 07:52 PM I had my truck in for an oil change today. They brought this up and took care of it, but said they didn't have any "details" as to what it is. Just a reflash of the ecm is what they said.
Anyone within GM have any insight?
joeburnside 05-21-2008, 08:10 PM I too would be interrested in the details of this recall.
HOLLBOB1 05-21-2008, 08:11 PM badinblack any noticable difference after u got it back
Ted White 05-21-2008, 08:14 PM So, a mystery waiting to be solved.
COLASCDURAMAX 05-21-2008, 09:13 PM When your truck is in for service they are reflashing with an update to allow only GM's equipment to talk to your truck.........this means that if you are running a tuner and go to re-install the tune your truck may not accept it and/or it will lock your truck up. Talked with Dan at PPE and they are working on it. I am currently unable to load my tune at Dan's recomendation. Not positive that GM did this to my truck but, I can't afford to be without my truck so I am playing safe.

All 2007 and certain 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, Express; GMC Sierra and Savana vehicles, equipped with a 6.6L Duramax Diesel V8 (RPO LMM - VIN 6) engine, were produced with an ECM programming error that can result in incorrect data being written to the EEPROM used by the vehicle theft deterrent system, causing the engine not to crank or start.
Correction
Dealers are to reprogram the ECM with revised software that corrects the programming error.

I personally am very hesitant to have them flash the computer; all I need is to get locked out and back to stock tune. I won't take mine in unless I have an issue and cannot get around having it fixed.

slickzone 05-22-2008, 08:52 AM I was told that gm is reflashing the ecm,so that nothing higher then a level one could be loaded in from a turner.thats on the LMM motors
goodwrenchtech 05-22-2008, 01:24 PM As of right now I don't think it has anything to do with tuners BUT lets what to see what the pros say about it. I personally will not do the reprogram to my tuck tell I hear from Dan at PPE or Justin at Quad, Or mabe Nick for the efi stuff.
blamkin86 05-22-2008, 01:35 PM Thanks Goodwrenchtech. Where else would I find out this stuff? Awesome.
Schweinmesser 05-22-2008, 01:41 PM thanks goodwrenchtech!
Sully01 05-22-2008, 02:37 PM Thanks Goodwrenchtech, I have an appointment to take mine in this afternoon.
Ya...thanks Goodwrench, I was at my dealer for an oil change this morning and asked him about the recall you posted...he appeared shocked I knew about it as it wasn't supposed to be mailed out to owners until the 27th! They went ahead and flashed it! All is well. :)
Fulton 1 05-30-2008, 11:13 AM I received notification in the mail yesterday and am holding off until I know more. Currently running Quad tune and I don't want to cause a problem...
Kubota00 05-31-2008, 06:00 PM I received a letter today from The General, related to my 08 - 3500 mussel truck
Dated May 2008
“We have learned that your 2008 model year Chevrolet Silverado, equipped with a 6.6L Duramax Diesel V8 engine, was produced with a programming error that can result in Engine Control Module memory damage and will cause the engine not to crank or start. This is more likely to occur the longer you operate your vehicle.”
Waiting for more information.
Schweinmesser 06-01-2008, 01:08 AM got my letter today...going to the stealership Monday...guess I'll find out more then.
BigRedLMM 06-01-2008, 09:17 AM I also go a recall 7268 along with 8142 does any one know what the 7268 is all about
goodwrenchtech 06-01-2008, 03:10 PM On certain 2008 model year Cadillac DTS, SRX; Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe; GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL: and HUMMER H2 vehicles equipped with a touch-screen navigation system (RPO UVB/U3U/U2V/U3R), the map DVD may contain a slight ripple in the surface. This may cause a slow response to a command (i.e., hard key press), freeze the navigation screen, or display a DVD read error message.
Correction
Dealers are to replace the map DVD.
How is that for service:)

Schweinmesser 06-02-2008, 03:48 PM Got mine flashed today. Dealer had less info than what the Recall 08142 letter said.
LETHAL WEAPON 02-06-2009, 03:36 PM Why the hell GM didnt send me a recall to fix the problem
LETHAL WEAPON 02-06-2009, 04:11 PM Thanks for the info my date with the stealership is next wednesday and they better not say its out of warennty because i have stacks & wheels on it. Its a dam shame i took it to the stealership about 2 mounths ago and they could not find the problem, I post my problem on this sit and I get the results I am looking for in 48 hours, I think we should work for GM I think we know more about our trucks than they do
hlhinc2000 08-29-2010, 08:38 PM I never got a letter for this recall but my truck is having the symptoms of this recall. So has anyone had any problems reloading a tune after this ecm re-flash? From what I've read it doesn't look to be a problem but someone who has done it will make me feel a little better. Either way I need my truck running so it inevitable.
