I buddy bought a 2001 CTD the same time I bought my DMax and he says that after about 1500miles that he has to release some valve? He says that like water or something builds up there or something? He ask me if I had to do the same thing. I said no and I never heard of something like that.

Probably just a routine precaution,if it's the fuel filter water drain ....I'm sure some where in our manual it prolly says check and drain also ....

It's the drain for the water separator. Good idea to check for water every couple of fill ups or so.

Road Boss,
Real easy to do on the Cummins and ruggedly designed for repeated service. A bit more difficult to get at and do on the Duramax. Might be a problem if done with a "hamfist" as the more fragile parts seemed more easily broken.
For all diesels it's a good idea to check and/or drain water and debris from the filter.

It's also used to drain the fuel filter canister so fuel filter changes isn't so messy.
