The mobile 1 website says I should run Mobil Clean 7500 10W-30
in my LMM. I have no thoughts or preferences except for the synthetic blends. It says it is CJ-4 rated:

ILSAC GF-4 (API Certified - Starburst)
API SM/SL
GM 6094M
The Requirements for Diesel-Powered Vehicles where an API CF or API CD is RecommendedFor now I still have the DPF.

So I think I'll use that oil. Next part, what oil filter should I use or does it matter. It seems that my options are K&N, FRAM, AC DELCO, STP, MOBILE, BOSCH, PURATOR, PENTIUS, and AFE.

Those are what I can readily find. What should I run on this thing, my only thought on the matter is that if money wasn't so tight I'd just have the dealer change the oil and I'd be done with it so I should just get whatever the dealer has an call it a day (I think its AC DELCO). Just thought I'd get some more informed opinions before I do anything.

I would be a little hesitant running a 30 weight oil since our climate does not get that cold. Mobil Delvac ESP or Amsoil DEO 5W40 CJ-4-rated oils would be the choices I would go with for an LMM. Regarding filters, I've always used Baldwin and have had good oil analyses. I started using the Amsoil EaO52 filter and plan on an oil analysis soon to compare.

I'm always skeptical of a recommendation from somebody who is trying to sell me something. Check the manual.

As for filters...I'm using OEM...at least until my 100k warranty runs out.

I went ahead on got an AC DELCO filter, I was ordering some parts for another toy and they have some basic stuff for the truck. Since I was burning a 25% of coupon anyway...

I looked at this over and over on their website and I do not see where this is CJ-4 rated. It says CF or CD.

Does anyone know where to find the Delvac ESP?

The Delvac-1.... Is that the unicorn of engine oil? I can't find it anywhere...

There one place online, but its 160 for 4 gallons (that includes shipping).

The dealer said they put in Delo 15-40 (Chevron)... maybe that's easier to find.

Chevron DeloŽ 400 LE to be specific.
http://www.chevrondelo.com/en/deloworldwide/uscanadamexico/default.asp#le

Suppossed to be CJ-4 rated, I guess I miss read the Mobil site. I can't find the mobil, I tried amsoil and good lord I can't afford 7.80 a quart, even if I buy it in bulk its still over 7/quart.

Frickin auto zone has the Chevron Delo 400 LE (the guys said it says CJ-4 on the bottle) for $11.99 a gallon (he siad they don't have quarts). So I'm going to check that out, I figure if the dealer runs it, then at least they can't ding me for it.

So I guess in the end, Im putting the same parts on as the dealer, just not paying the labor.

Yep, those synthetics hover around the $7/qt. price. Chevron Delo 15W40 CJ-4 is a conventional oil option for your LMM. You can also check on Shell Rotella synthetic as another option if you are looking to go the synthetic route - I usually see quantities at my local parts store. Just make sure it is CJ-4 rated.

Been running DELO 400LE and going 8-10k miles between changes. Everything running fine. I buy mine at Costco by the case (6gals) at about $9.75 per gallon. I have also seen it at various Super Walmarts in the auto section. I have even seen it sold at the Super walmart by me in both 1gal jugs and single qt bottles. It is a CJ-4 rated and certified oil. Less that $2.50/qt, gotta love that.

Occitiger,
Most of the CJ-4 non-synthetics are 15w-40. Chevron Delo 400 LE is very good (that's what I use), as are Mobil Delvac 1300 Super and Shell Rotella, and they should be easy to find (as others have said, Walmart usually has good prices but irratic stocking; Costco carries the Delo).

If you lived in a seriously cold climate, or if you just gotta have synthetic, then each of the above have a CJ-4 synthetic version in a 5w-40. Of course, they cost about 3x.

A few others (like Amsoil, I think) have a 15w-40 synthetic, but I'm not familiar with them. But those are all harder to find, or are mail-order.

I think you'll find most of us buy diesel oil in 1 gallon jugs since it takes 2.5 gallons (10 qts.) for an oil change.

A/C or Mobil 1 oil filters might be ok out of your list, and might be the reasonable choices if you're only going to buy from a parts store. You can get Napa Gold (actually they are Wix, which in my opinion are very good) at Napa but they cost about twice what you can get them from Fleet Filter (a vendor here), so buy 3 at a time.

Baldwin oil filters have been very good, too (at least the last time I used one, 2 years ago).
