: Forced Door Locks
ronadijcks 02-16-2005, 06:53 PM My 2005 forces:mad: me to lock the doors on start up or with speed, with NO way to leave them open. If I open the door locks while moving, they will lock again:badidea: the minute I slow to a stop and take off again. Like we were children and need to be told what to do:blahblah: .
Anyone know how to stop that? I do NOT believe forced LOCKED doors is safer than unlocked, unless you are in the Ghetto:eek: . BUT not for the highway:confused: . I would prefer someone can get in without having to shatter glass all around me.
ANy help:help2: on how to un-smart the auto locking would be appreciated!!!!
Thanks..Ron

Great answer, but unfortunately, there is no way to shut the auto lock off.
I have gone through the manual page at a time.
Max Power 02-16-2005, 10:12 PM You don't have steering wheel controls?
Duratys 02-16-2005, 10:16 PM You should be able to turn that feature off in your DIC, using the wheel controls.
Even set it up dif for that matter
Cobra#3747 02-16-2005, 10:16 PM Have to go through driver 1/2 options and change the setting. Seeing that you have On Star and XM, I am sure you have steering wheel controls.
blizzardplowman 02-16-2005, 11:23 PM As far as I can tell there is no way to turn off auto lock on the 05's, you can set 8 mph or in grear and out of gear unlock or key out of ing, but can't turn it off. I took mine back and the tech that called GM was told "nope. its a safty thing- something about a crew cab and opening the doors at speed:confused: " I f I under stood him right its only the crew cabs, not sure though. If everyone tells GM :badidea: :blahblah: :badidea: maybe something can be done but I bet not.
_nar_ 02-17-2005, 01:20 AM Not just the crew cabs, all of them do it.. Man that would piss me off...
ronadijcks 02-17-2005, 02:46 AM As far as I can tell there is no way to turn off auto lock on the 05's, you can set 8 mph or in grear and out of gear unlock or key out of ing, but can't turn it off. I took mine back and the tech that called GM was told "nope. its a safty thing- something about a crew cab and opening the doors at speed:confused: " I f I under stood him right its only the crew cabs, not sure though. If everyone tells GM :badidea: :blahblah: :badidea: maybe something can be done but I bet not.I hear ya. IT is rediculous that they BABYSIT us like that. They took a lot of functionality out of the DIC units for 2005. Pisses me off that I went from a 2003 that was better and more user friendly than my 2005.
I would have to look but if , The Crew cab doors have child safety locks, then that is a lame excuse. Gm really jacked the 2005 around. They are NOT more powerful,:( and as a double whammy,:( get horrible MPG's.(Unless you actually believe the DIC)
I may have to jump ship. After all, they put the leaks in it.
...if , The Crew cab doors have child safety locks...
Pretty sure my '04 crew has child safety locks on the inside of the door frame like our old '95 Tahoe. Not sure about '05. From this thread and others, I'm glad I got an '04.
jnieberlein 03-06-2005, 05:49 PM I open a lot of gates in and out and such the point is my timing is all off I go to grab the door handle and am pulling up on it the same time I am putting the truck in park and at least once or twice a time I time it perfect so the door handle is pulled and the door is trying to unlock at the same time and than I have to hit the GD unlock button or push the stupid thing manually it is just a pain in the ACensored . Is there someway to set this up so when you pull the handle it would unlock the door or maybe I could reverse it to unlock at a slow speed, or some wires I could cut, or if I could call onstar and have them unlock it for me before I get to the gate. Wait I don’t have onstar. I am just asking I know that with all of the knowledge on this site someone has got to know something about making some sort of "finger stick" contraption to trick the doors into not locking or something. I love my truck but between the sucky tires and the GD automatic door locks I can’t stand them. All this technology I am making a transition from a 93 to a 05 I mean it is like culture shock to me. FN SOB N automatic door- safety- air bags, BS what ever happened to riding a bicycle with no helmet and riding in the bed of a pickup or eating the pretty lead paint off of your crib, I mean I am still alive and normal at least in my world cause its all ok because they know me here. I swear all this safety stuff has really allowed society to dumb down. Our natural selection process has really taken a turn for the worse all the stupid people are now allowed live as a result of all this safetyCensored, SOB N Stupid Society :offtopic:  :blahblah: :banghead: :damnit1: :drinking: :sheephump :shootself :nutkick: :birthday: :snipersmi :sorrysign <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Ok I feel better...Thanks
Diesel Dragon 03-06-2005, 06:51 PM LOL you need to take a :chillpill pill
Relax it's just a door lock. Learn to live with it, it's a safety item for your benefit. Most people that are thrown out of vehicles do so from a open door.
If you have to open the gate then hit the unlock button before you pull on the handle or get your timing together and don't pull the handle until it's in park and the door's unlock themselves.
PS I know how to disable it but it's a :secret:
:joke:
Good Luck in your quest
smshiver 03-06-2005, 09:50 PM I'm starting to be really glad I have a 2004 LB7. Actually wish I had been able to find a 2003 (with more interior courtesy lights, etc.). The lawyers are gaining way too much influence on EVERYTHING. My wife got ticked off and kicked the passenger door open due to the locks not unlocking until OUT of gear (in park) when I was dropping her off somewhere. I turned the whole lock thing off. If I want my doors locked, I'll lock them. I don't need some pinhead to do it for me.
Diesel Dragon 03-06-2005, 10:40 PM LOL she kicked it open?
You could tell her to just push the little unlock button on the door (that's what it's there for) and open the door all she wants with out kicking your truck.
My wife would never even think of hitting my truck :rules: :badidea: :Nonono:
Tip of the Iceberg 03-07-2005, 02:07 AM My wife got ticked off and kicked the passenger door open
Hey....Hey. Don't be talkin' about things like this. Next they'll be puttin' in "anti kick the door open foot restraints" :exactly:
SpoolinTurbo 03-07-2005, 02:46 AM I asked the wife bout it...Both of us both like it. NREMT-B/Ranger Medic and NREMT-Paramedic... we've both seen our fair share of ejections...
The main problem with the door locks is I'll hit the lock button twice when getting out and she's not out yet then starts cussing at me because she has to unlock it herself.. lol
srode 03-07-2005, 05:35 AM Auto door locks ain't a bad idea IMHO, and I don't they shouldn't be disabled. Saturday I was headed down 75 and exited on 635 when a gal right in front of me swerved, hit the concrete barrier and spun around several times only to have her drivers door fly open and be thrown from the car in the middle of the highway with traffic going 60 MPH. Everyone managed to stop before someone ran over her, but it was close. She almost got nailed by her own car too. Not fun watching a young lady hitting the pavement then being hauled off in an ambulance because her drivers door didn't stay closed. Seatbelts would have helped too. The air bags in her Mitsubishi Lancer went off but they won't keep you in the car. I'm guessing if she were asked now, she would be an auto door lock advocate too. Locking doors is easy to forget to do.
rangervx 03-07-2005, 08:27 AM good answer srode. Dude...just live with it. It's a truck. Use it and enjoy it.
I'm guessing most folks agree that its for safety, but most (like me) can hit the pwr door lock as easily as anyone else and lock it ourselves. I think its just another "big brother" tactic for our own good. Like the black box that can tell investigators how you were driving just before an accident...

jnieberlein 03-20-2005, 12:30 PM Yeah but I dont have to worry about and kamakazi(sp) turkeys running me over I just let the dog stear while I open the gate and she is pretty good at hearding cattle and killing turkeys and anything that may try and get in the truck that dosent belong, hindsight 20/20 after venting I now just unlock the door pryor to reaching the drive and this works too....It was just one of those days.
ssduramax 03-21-2005, 12:18 PM seems to me if you are in a wreck bad enough to nock the doors off, then locking them aint gonna help. just my .02
srode 03-21-2005, 09:12 PM seems to me if you are in a wreck bad enough to nock the doors off, then locking them aint gonna help. just my .02Doors often fly open in wrecks if they aren't locked, that's why most newer cars have automatic locks. The your girl I saw almost run over by her own car on 635 exit near Dallas a few weeks ago probably wishes her's were locked. She would have been able to go right home instead of taking an ambulance to the hospital with a neck brace and strapped to a back board with road rash.
