Hi --
I have a 14' cargo trailer, single axle with no breaks. How difficult is it to add (electric) brakes to the axle?

Thanks .........

Not a big deal. You will need 2 brake units, 2 hub and drums. The bearings will switch from the old idler hubs to the new drums. Better get 2 new seals and if you currently have a 4 way plug, a 7 way plug. If the trailer didn't require brakes when it was built, you may not legally need a breakaway switch, but it's not a bad idea. A little wire and probably less than 2 hours labor, and that's it.

Northern Tool should have everything you need.

I have a similar trailer as you. I decided that I wanted a little extra weight capacity. so I bought off the internet a 5200lb. axle complete with brakes. just removed the old 3500 lb axel, and installed the new one. I did also have to replace the springs, and had to get new 6 lug wheels, and tires. total parts was around 500.00. easy job as the axle, and brakes came as an assy. added 7 pin plug, and breakaway box(35.00) and good to go.
