: Picked Up New Raptor Today
bartman 05-20-2008, 01:17 AM Just picked up our new 2008 Raptor 3812TS. Got it in Durango, CO at Tarpleys RV (awsome people and service!) Almost 40ft tip to tail and dry weight is about 13k lbs. Towed beautifully behind the truck in my signature. Cant wait to take it on it's first camping trip! Here's a picture...

bartman 05-21-2008, 12:53 AM Definitely a toy hauler.
My wife would kill me if took the decals off. Funny you should say that too, because my co-worker asked me if I was going to get matching decals for my truck...I told him no way...I am not old enough yet:eek:. I think you have to be over 60 to get matching decals for your tow vehicle):h
SKIHIGHHD 05-21-2008, 01:53 AM Lol How Much Space I/e Feet Of Cargo Do U Have On That Raptor? Pop Outs?

tinypeckerwood 05-21-2008, 09:17 PM Whats that baby drop your mileage down too? My big, tall ass windsock drags mine down to less than 9 mpg.

I got 10.5 coming home from Durango with a tailwind. Usually averaged 9.5-10 with our 2005 2612DS Raptor.
Loader 05-27-2008, 01:43 AM Definitely a toy hauler.

Great. I was thinking how cool it would look with the matching decals. Let's just say I'm ahead of my time.
rcpd34 05-30-2008, 12:36 AM I'm jealous too! I'd be happy with your old Raptor!
signguy 05-30-2008, 11:42 AM Congrats on the new trailer! The Raptor is a great unit.
It is a lot of fun having a new trailer- So many little mods you can do to make it perfect for you.
Loader 05-30-2008, 01:48 PM I've always wondered about those Raptors - if you don't have a car in there, are they front-heavy? How does it pull without a full load? Those things are enormous and everybody I've talked to has zero complaints about them. Congrats! If I ever upgrade, that's where I'll go - a dually and a Raptor!
ickman99 05-30-2008, 02:50 PM Sweet looking set up have fun. Next TH is going to be a 5th with garage.
Kendo 06-03-2008, 05:57 PM Any trouble fitting the two Sportsman's in the garage? Do they fit side by side or do you have to spin one?
Beautiful 5er BTW, saw one at the RV show this spring and immediately feel in love with it. I just don't think my shorty 2500 is up to the task. :(

They fit side by side with the tires rubbing each other, but they do make it. I would agree that this particular model is too big for a 2500. They do make a single slide model 299MP that is much lighter and smaller, but still has a separate garage. You could pull this model with no problems with a 2500HD.

my exact trailer  10k empty is pretty good for a 5th toyhauler

My mom and dad just took delivery of one today and we will meet up with them in Lake City, Colorado later this month. I think the 299MP is perfect for a 2500HD and would be my choice if I didnt want a bigger unit. I like the layout of it...very comfortable and cozy!

i love it except that the "pass-thru" storage isnt pass thru  weighted it today and i added up the numbers and its over the gvwr of 9200lbs by ~700lbs. :D ovell. last trailer i had (forest river sandpiper 40spds) was 25,600lbs combined..
haulin-rv 06-05-2008, 07:26 PM Looks like you may need to upgrade that 1k reese now:p:.

Funny you should mention that...I need to update my profile...I just got a Curt Q5 20K hitch. I told my wife that the Reese 16K wasnt going to cut it. After telling her horror stories about loosing the trailer off the side of a mountain she agreed!:)

When you said this, where you talking about the 299 or do you think a 2500HD could handle the 3812ts? I ask because I am looking at a 3812 right now and wondered if I could pull safely. The salesman says yes with air bags... but I am not into trusting all sales people just for the heck of it. LOL
Thx

It all boils down to your comfort level and willingness to accept responsibility for being over weight. With that being said, I will say that you should get a dually for any of the large, triple axle toyhaulers. A properly equipped 2500HD will handle it, but NOT as well as a 3500 Dually...EVER.
