I see alot of you are running 9005's...as in H9005?? Not sure if there even is such a thing as a non H 9005. Is that bulb any brighter than the 9145 stock bulb?? Any problems with housings for the GMC?? Thanks

The 9145 is 35 watts I think, and the 9005 is around 55-60 watts. Much brighter. Both are halogen. I run them in my Sivlerado with the square fog lamps with no problems, not sure on the GMC's.

The 9005s work fine on the GMC also. I am running them in mine.

I think the OEM bulbs in the 02 GMC's are not the 9145. It is not in my owners manual but I think it is a 880.
Does anyone know for sure? Can this also be replaced by the 9005?
My fogs are so dull I can't see any difference when I turn them on (at night or in fog).
I would sure like to make them brighter.:)

If you want the 9145..."The 2003 and on GMC Silverstar 9145 ST will be coming out in late April"... According to an email from Sylvania, today. I have been told since Dec 02 that the bulbs would be out, next month, next quarter, etc. So, we will see. They may mean late April 2006..:(

The '02 Chev takes 880's. 880 silverstars have been listed for some time, but I can't find anyone who carries them around here. I think 893's will fit, and they are maybe 10 watts more htan a 880? Maybe someone can confirm.

I would sure like to make them brighter.:)The 880 and 9145 are not interchangeable. Different mounting base I think. But as said before, they do make the 880 in SilverStars. Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, Pep Boys...I've seen them at all these places.

The dealer was the only one I could find that had 9145's. The first dealer said it would take a day to get one in. The next dealer took one off a new truck on the lot. I didn't think they were covered by warrranty but I've been wrong before. They cost about $18 each. I would buy Silverstars if they were available. I have them for headlights and like them a lot.

I had an 01 chevy that would have taken the 880s. I replaced them with the 893s. Worked great! I'm not sure of the wattage difference, but the 893s were "blue" bulbs and were noticeably brighter.

I looked on the Sylvania website at the silverstars. The 880ST is 27 watts and 565 lumens. The 893ST is 37.5 watts and 990 lumens. That's a 75% increase in light output. The standard 880 is listed as 200-300 lumens. Thats pathetic.

I sure would like to be able to put in the 9005 which is 1700 lumens. At least 5 times brighter than the 880

By the way, they list the standard 9145 as 1000 lumens so there is a 70% improvement with the 9005 silverstars.

so the 9005's won't build up too much heat?

so the 9005's won't build up too much heat?I haven't seen a problem on mine yet, but I have a Silverado and the fog lamp housing is larger, square as apposed to round on the Sierra. I don't think it would be a problem though.

Has anyone found a place to buy the 893ST bulbs yet? I have looked at Wal-Mart and Advanced Auto to no avail.

I didn't buy the 893ST, but I have bought the xenon bulbs from ebay. Never had a problem with them and they lasted for as long as I owned my Chevy. I just ordered some for my snowmachine and they costed about 20 with shipping.

Has anyone been able to make a 9005 fit in the housing that the 880 bulbs go in? I know there will be some modification required. I have an '02.

I would be worried about melting the housing on those. I think there would need to be a little more area to disapate the heat. Anyway, I'm sure if you wanted to, you could. Just my 2 cents!

Ok well I spoke too soon. I looked at mine this afternoon and the the housing is fine but the reflector has started to turn blue from the heat, so I took them out and placed the stock lights back in for now. I am in search of finding a lower wattage bulb to go in there but produce more light or whiter light than them. Anyone have any ideas? I went with a 9005 and it was too much.. There are some NOKYA bulbs on the market that are suppose to be replacements but I still think they will produce too much heat for the housing and the reflector plate.. Anyone else have this issue?

what wattage 9005 do you have? I have some 55, 65, and 100, might make a differance? I have the 65s in right now but they have only been in there for a week or so.

Think they are 60W. But I think I found a 48W bulb that I am going to try. I will post results after some testing.

You can get the silverstars in April, according to Sylvania..

Have some sympathy for the people driving cars when you have those high wattage fog lamps on. I was temporary blinded (while I was driving my car) by a driver's side fog light last night on a new Silverado.

The headlights didn't cause a problem, it was the fog that shot right into my eyes as we passed on a rural road, and they seem very bright for a fog lamp.

I turn mine off as I pass cars on two lane roads.

So has anyone else looked to see if the housing or reflector on your GMC is turning blue from the heat? This is the issue that I had with mine and not sure but I think it was just the bulb being to powerful for the housing. I know several of you said that you were running higher wattage bulbs with no issues but I am curious about this. If you guys can look and tell me what you find I would appreciate it. As for other drivers, I want to be able to see the road and that is my main concern....

I have 100w 9005's in my fog's with no problems. I found a site that has them fairly inexpensive, if you are interested check out;
