We are trying to locate another dealer for service other than the one we purchased the truck from. I'm sure we can do some of the leg work by phone and ask some important questions, what should we be asking and is the Service Manager the one to speak with.

Thanks,

The service manager at the dealership that I bought my truck from was telling me that they are having a lot of trouble with lift pumps on the Duramax. I'm not sure who to talk to but some of the service managers don't know that much.

Go and ask to talk to the diesel mechanic. it shouldnt take long at all to determine if you want him working on your stuff

As eric said, talk to the techs, if you can....Most of the service managers I've seen really have no idea about cars and trucks....Generally, they are "overseeing" the service process....Most of their time is spent speaking with customers about issues and dealing with service writers (talk to the service writers too, if they seem to have a clue, that will work in your favor too) Also, familiarize yourself with your truck, read the owner's manual, and read the info here.....The more you know, the less likely you are to be led in the wrong direction by the dealer....

Start with a dealer with a large inventory. If they sell a lot of DMAX's then they usually have the Techs who know how to fix them. Most people take their vehicles back to the dealer they bought them from.. If the dealer see's a lot of DMAX's come into their shop then they'll train more of their techs.

Then, like dmaxallitech said, talk to the tech. Training is important but without the tech having real world experiance you service will suffer.

I did as Eric said. I searched out what dealers had a D/A tech and went and talked to him and the Manager. The dealer I bought from wouldn't give me rental unless I bought the extra warranty. This present dealer gives me a loaner car even though I didn't buy from them.

You need to read your contract. They have to provide a loaner per GM if a repair takes more than a day.
