: Can I run these tires/wheels??

It seems like a 16" x 8" rim with a 4 1/2" offset is a common size available from the aftermarket wheel manufactures. How well does a 285 fit that rim and will it provide enough clearance? I don't mind a bit of trimming at the bumper and lower spoiler if needed.

I also would like to explore a 17" rim with a 285 to 305. Is this possible? If so what size tire and will it comfortably fit a 8" rim? I really do not want the tires to stick out of the wheel wells to much. I think it makes the truck look to "big foot" lookin'!

Finally who makes a nice on/offroad tire for a daily driver (non-snow) application. Would like a "truck" looking tread without the chainsaw noise!

here are 285's on 16x8s with 4 5/8 bs. lots of trimming...BUT THATS WITH 3" SPINDLE LIFT. its a little better now that i cranked my t-bars up about 1 1/2" but still sucked to cut all that

Snuffy,

Whats with the spindle lifts? Will the 285 work without them? I know trimming needs to be done regardless and it's no big deal.

I want to beef the truck up a bit but don't want to get crazy!

Sounds to me like what you want are H2 wheels with 285/70-17 BFG AT's or Bridgestone Revos.

I would suggest going here http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=170 and looking at all the forum members trucks to see what look you like. Most of the guys (all should if you ask me) have tire/wheel/lift info they are running in their signature.

Snuff,
I may be wrong, but I believe the backspace of your wheels are 3 5/8. I have the same exact setup and if the wheels are Eagle Alloy 101's then the backspace is 3 5/8. A 4.5 inch backspace on those wheels won't look as deep as your wheels are. Like I said, I could be wrong....

WELL... what do ya know. my buddy just called and is putting 285's on his DMAX, with aftermarket wheels and he says his is rubbin on the drive fender by the kick panel and by the washer bottle. also had to trim some of the bumper. he doen't have a spindle lift...YET.

Snuff,

You buddy with the 285's and no spindles; who's wheels is he using and whats the BS?

The wheels I am looking at are American Racing Wheels Python Series 720 and Nitro Series 647. Both are a 4 1/2" (what they are calling Backside). It also notes that they are 0 offset. Rims are 16" x 8".

( - ) offset you are going to be sticking the tire out, pos. (+) sucking the tire in. on the 8 lug, i was told by a few dealers, they are all pretty much all going to be a 4.5" BS
