Considering an exhaust upgrade in the future. Question is, do you really gain anything with a CAT-back system. Seems you are still restricted from turbo to CAT and I am skeptical how much gains you get on larger diameter exh from CAT only, despite manufacturers claims.
Is turbo back the only way to go if you want to see increase in mileage, lower egt's, etc?
Thanks

If you dont have to worry about regular state emisions testing, you should see gains by removing the cat and installing a quality down pipe back system.
I'm installing a MBRP system soon!! but I never had a cat so!?

Have read a lot of posts regarding cat-back versus turbo back and the mileage gains if any.No real concenus that I see.The muffler does quiet the truck down considerly,I removed the exhaust from the cat back at the band clamp on my truck for a while just to see if anything might be gained.Could see very little change in EGT,throttle response seemed to have improved and mileage increased but less than a tank used so not real definite there.Wish I could have pulled my 12,000 lb. fiver with the exhaust off but was fearful of burning up the truck with the exhaust exiting under the cab.I want to get a cat-back system from MBRP but really need to see a gain to justify the cost.

Yes, you do gain lower egt's with the cat back system. The cat's not really as restrictive as most people think. But you'll want to keep the cat on the truck for warrenty work, or you could buy a downpipe and then the cat back system then put the cat back on for warrenty work.
