On an '04, which diget on the VIN identifies the transmission type as Allison or a maunual transmission. What's the code letter for each one?????:help:

The eighth digit will tell you engine type but none will tell you trans type. The RPO codes will tell you vehicle build info. M74 is an Allison, ML6 is the ZF 6 speed. I believe the RPO list is in the glovebox.

Someone with access to GM's database could punch in a VIN and that should indicate all the details of the truck's build and options. If you have to get into the glovebox to check the RPO codes, you could just look in the cab and know which tranny it is instantly.

I know it sounds dumb, yes I could look inside, but the truck is in a different state. See, there in lies the the problem. In one place on the net it says its a manual and in another place its an Allison. Since I verbally agreed to purchase the truck over the phone, I just wanted to verify it really is an Allison. The pictures dont really show and nobody is around to call tonight. I'm leaving in the AM to pick-up. I just discovered the differences at supper time. I can't image purchasing a crew cab LT package with a manual, but I suspose anything's possible. Thanks for checking. Ron

It's near Dayton Ohio at a Chevrolet dealer. The extended cab I have now is excellent but I wanted a crew cab and want to stick with a LB7. I had thought about a new crew cab '05. Try an find exactly what you want, color, options etc. etc. Not EZ to do.

Go to GMBuypower.com and and build a quick truck similar to the one you are buying. After your done, enter the zip code near the dealer you are purchasing from. Find the dealer and list of available trucks will come up. Match the VIN and you can look at the sticker and see all of the options.

It has an Allison, code M74.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the LT/SLT package automatically come with the center console and an atuo tranny. It it does, then no manual tranny since there is no room for the stick.

as you see above, it does have the Allison, but to answer your question...that's what I was thinking also, same as you. However, the Allison and the Duramax is priced out sepatately and doesn't appear to be as part of a package price like the LT group or what ever. I suppose if your wanted a manual they could delete the center console.?????You know the funny thing is, the D/A is a $6000 option new and they get $6000 more (KBB) also for a used D/A over gas. They don't depreciate much if at all when buying used. later, Ron
