: Pyrometer mounting ????
VegasTinMan 02-15-2005, 06:58 PM Here is my situation. I have the edge juice/attitude. I need to remove it to take the truck into the dealer when our brake hydrobooster gets recalled. I don't want to have a Pyro lead going nowhere when i take it in, so I bought an Autometer pyro last night. I cannot find a flat 2" space anywhere in the cab to mount it. I plan on installing it permanantly, so I would like it to look nice. I do want it a little out of the way though because It will only actually function when the j/a is removed. Really dont want it on the A pillar because I just got an attitude mount for that location. Thanks for the help.
P.S. Will the dealer have issues about the pyrometer? I do not want to lose my warranty.
Max Power 02-15-2005, 07:03 PM http://www.socaldiesel.com/ Probably more then you want to spen but it is SWEET!
Sollly 02-15-2005, 08:42 PM Go to www.dieselperformanceparts.com (http://www.dieselperformanceparts.com) They have a single culumn mount pod that would work well for $30.
VegasTinMan 02-15-2005, 08:56 PM Thank you, Solly. DPP lists it for 2004, but not 2005. Does anyone know if the steering wheel the same across those years? That mount would be really nice, but this is something that will be non-functional 99% of the time. I know there are a lot of guys here running the j/a. WHat do you guys do about the pyro wires for a trip to the dealer. I was considering removing it completely and installind a 1/8" npt plug. That would have cost me about $3. I'm in the pyro 200 alone without the mount. Anyone have a suggestion to help me avoid problems. I already plan on buying a new fuse box cover so there isn't velcro staring the technician in the face when he opens the hood. What other precautions do I need to take?

Trippin makes a sweet overhead mount, ):h and DPP has a differant type of overhead mount
VegasTinMan 02-15-2005, 09:10 PM No pics on DPP's web site for overheads. Do they work if i do not have the overhead console? Kinda turning into a headache just for a dealer trip. Still looking for dealer advice from others with the J/A, and might have a brand new AutoMeter pyro for sale soon....

I also did the trippin overhead mount and it is awesome. Yes, you do need the overhead console because it fits into the empty space in the front. Probably more than you want to spend just for the dealer trip, but it is out of the way and gives a nice factory look.
D/A Power 02-15-2005, 09:18 PM Check out this thread and link for the overhead mount pics.

Salmonbum 02-16-2005, 06:53 AM I just put the Edge\Attitude in this past weekend. Before I installed the Probe, I ran up to the Local Tractor dealer and bought a cap for the thermocoupler fitting. If needed, I can just reach down with a wrench, pull out the Probe and screw on the cap. Now there won't be a wire leading to nothing. If the dealer does see the fitting in the manifold, I tell them I had a guy a work tap it for me and am waiting for buddy# 2 to come over and do the gauges;) .
VegasTinMan 02-16-2005, 07:16 PM Salmonbum, Do you happen to know what kind of fitting it is. (Size and thread) The company I work for does plumbing as well as air so I have access to any fitting I could want. Is there a way to do this without removing the inner fender well?
McRat 02-16-2005, 09:27 PM You should remove the fender liner.
It is 100 times easier to work down there with that liner removed. Even for fuel filter replacement it's easier. First time you take it off, it will take you 15min. Next time, 5min max. You need a medium sized flat blade screwdriver or really strong fingernails. There is a center spud in the dozen or so plastic snaps that you pry out, then pull the base of the snap out with your fingers.
VegasTinMan 02-16-2005, 09:57 PM I took it out to put the edge in. Seemed like it took forever. I'm sure you're right about the required time decreasing. When I did it I took the fender flare off as well, though. Can the fender well be removed without removing the fender flare?

I am sure you can easliy remove the probe without taking off the inner fender well. I also would like to pick up a cap so that I can pull the probe out when going to the dealer!

I had Socaldieseltech install mine. He had that fender off before I could watch him do it.
CalDirt 02-23-2005, 12:03 AM you guys really that worried that the thermo pickup will cause them to void your warranty?
I planned to remove my juice/attitude for any visits, but not the thermo pickup. i figure if they start giving me flack about that I'll tell them it's for a simple thermo guage and what the hell are they asking for anyway?
this is starting to sound like Nazi Germany - I mean, who is the customer here? we all paid a lot of money for these trucks and the dealers need to do what's right.
btw: fill out your surveys here on DP. there is a spot on the survey where you can tell them what you would like to have in a new truck - tell 'em you want them to adhere to the law as it's written by the Magnusson-Moss act (http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22304&highlight=Magnuson).
