Since a rubber vacuum hose is used to operate the mechanical boost gauge, what are you guys using to make the Tap connection when installing to the Manifold?

Do a search for 'super diesel manifold'

Do you have an LB7 or an LLY?

I drilled a hole in the side of the inlet pipe right before the last blue boot going into the turbo inlet. I picked up everything that I needed a Lowe's. A threaded vaccum nipple and nut and two crush washers and a drill bit to match. Took about 10 minutes to do. Looks like it cam from GM that way.:ro)

The easiest way is to use Super Diesel's manifold. If you're not up to that just tap into the intercooler pipe (silver) on the drivers side right before the blue flex connection. Don't forget to undo the blue flex hose and stuff a rag down in past where you drill to catch any metal filings.

I'm assuming that the 04 and 05 share the same fuse panel. Where are you getting power from for the guages? I know where to go for the lights but, not sure for the guage itself.

I did mine on Saturday, and I just drilled and tapped the intake tube on the passenger side just below the rubber boot. Since I was installing the EGT probe as well, I had the RH fender liner out which allowed me to remove the intake tube altogether and drill it off the truck so there was no metal to worry about. Worked perfect.

What are your boost readings so far?

I pulled power from the 10 Amp SSEO accessory fuse (using a fuse tap) located at the top of the fuse panel on the LH side of the I/P. It is powered with the key on accessory or run.

I've seen about 25psi so far and I bought the 60psi gage by mistake. I am expecting the 35psi replacement tomorrow. From what I've heard, most are seeing 30psi max with programmers.

I have seen 27psi max on mine at this time. but that is getting on it.

Super Diesel Manifold:ro)
This is an LB7 but he has one for the LLY also.

The Super Diesel is cool, but drilling the pipe right before that blue boot is just as easy and much cheaper I'm sure. It took me 10-15 minutes max and about $6 worth of stuff from lowe's to complete the job. To each his own though.:ro)

Does anyone know the approx. cost of the upgraded tube from Super Diesel? I would like to know how much cheaper the tap it yourself route is. Super Diesel's product looks top notch, and besides, I don't think Lowes is a supporting vendor!

It's around a $100-110.

I came out of Lowe's minus $6 or so.(compared to $100) Sorry supporting vendors in this case. I normally try to keep my purchases here. Pocket doesn't always allow.

I was able to use only the products supplied in the gage kit. The compression fittings and the adapter which I did buy from Deisel Performance Parts. I agree, support the vendors, but I could not justify another 100-130 bucks (the wife was not happy already!). But I do like the looks - it is top notch.

Been reading here that boost tap has been installed on either side. Will readings be the same either side? Is one side better than the other? Are boost gauges available in either mechanical or electrical? If so, which is better? Thanks.

I have only done it once, but based on my installation, the RH side is closer to the intake so I thought it would be more accurate. Also, I would think that the mechanical gage is more accurate but that is just an opinion as I have never dealt with any electrical units.

i run a digital readout gauge, and with a large stack with the banks bighead actuator i will spike to 36.5psi after going in to 5th gear on a hard run, i tapped in and just ahead of the blue hose engine side, and still use the sd manifold for my other fun stuff, its a good location, because if you have to remove the manifold for some reason, you still have a working boost gauge, and like you said, you can do the job for like under 10 dollars
