I posted in tune section too but probably get more response here.
Has anyone had a tune on there 8.1? Looking to get one and just wanted to know what to expect as far as mileage (if any) and power wise. I have a hypershit in here now and really cant tell a difference. I searched on here and it seems not too many have these tunes for the 8.1 so I wanted to hear what you guys think. I tow a 5-6000# trailer everyday so I dont know what kinda tune I would need. Would like to switch from a tow to a fun tune from the touch of a button if thats possible. Thanks fellas.

Call Allen at nelsens performance,He did my tune and I love it.You think the 8.1 has power now,get a tune and it will really wake it up.Allen said I would gain 35hp at the back tires and feel like 70(I had all tq management removed). He can do anything you wish.Super nice guy!
I get 12.5-13.5mpg

I made 4 mods to my 8.1:
1. Opened up airbox
2. Wait4Me Tune
3. Spark plug mod
4. 180 thermostat
This truck is like a 7000# Corvette!! I couldn't be happier. DIC says 12.5 MPG after several thousand miles of average driving.
I chose wait4me because my truck is still under warrantee and I wanted to keep my stock PCM at a reasonable cost. Other tuners wanted a fortune for the core charge!!

What is torque management?
Tq management is GM's way of "saving" critical driveline parts by reducing power usually via from pulling timing in the motor. It "corks" these and other motors up alot. For instance if you have ever floored the gas pedal from a stand still and it just takes its sweet ass time to get going and not pulling like it should its TM. It also uses it while shifting too to not slip the shifts. Basically when u mash the throttle it does not mean that the butterfly in the throttle body is opening all the way. Whatever the computer feels like doing it does. Usually you dont want to take all of the TM off but can reduce it alot. Well if I missed anything Im sure someone will let me know. ;)

If your sportin an allison, you can pull 100% of the tm.

Is there anything you can do to eliminate torque management other than a custom tune?

Well guys, just took the truck on a short 300mile trip today.I was pulling 3 full size quads and had them sideways on the trailer(not very aerodynamic).3 guys in the cab and a box full of gear.It was up and down hills the whole way running 70 mph.I got 10.2 mpg on the way there(no wind) and on the way back fighting a 30mph headwind I got 10 mpg.Didn't think that was to bad?
