I am trying to document how and when GM notified its dealers about the pump rub problem on 01-07 transfer cases.

In a post from July 07 member kgt posted:

"Abit of info released on may 17/07

Oil pump wear clip P/N 12470559 is broken or out of position. This may cause the pump to wear a pin hole in the transfer case rear half. If the wear is severe the transfer case may be damaged due to lack of lubrication. The clip may fatigue and break. The clip may become loose and shift out of position.

Recommendation/Instructions:
A new clip design has been released. P/N 89059653 is available for both production and service. This new part totally cancels and supersedes the former P/N 12470559. Only the new clip will be available.

This new oil pump wear clip should be used whenever a transfer case is opened for any type of internal service. See photo. GMSPO currently has inventory of the new part."

Is this in an official GM TSB or technical note or shop notice or ??? Was there any offical GM notice/acknowledgement of this issue prior to this? If so what was it?

Anybody know?

Both dealers I am "dealing" with found the PI. Wish dealer #1 had found it last July!

Correct me if I am wrong, but the only reason for a dealer to check this PI is if they are replacing the pump clip, then they might find a areference to it. There is no reason for them to do the PI search for a leaking transfer case. If they searched all the PIs and other notes for each VIN they dealt with, they would spend hours just reading the GM dealer web site.

GM needs to send out a general bulletin or Technical Service Bulletin, or some sort of notice about this issue to all dealers.

Is the pump rub still an issue on 07.5 and 08 NBS pickups?
