I just got back from the first big trip I've ever taken my burb on. Over 1000 miles comfortably seating 6 guys (3rd row seat) and pulling a 16' enclosed trailer full of a 4-wheeler and everyone's ice fishing gear (augers, shacks, propane tanks & heaters, sleds, rods & reels, etc...). The ol' girl performed flawlessly, but one thing I noticed is oil consumption seemed kinda high. I'd have to add about a 1/2 qt per tank full of fuel. I may still be leaking some out of my Censored oil cooler lines, but not sure at the moment. At any rate, I just wondered if that much oil consumption is normal or too high.
PS: I got 12mpg hauling all those guys and the trailer full of gear, running winter blended fuels.

I would think that to be high, my 95 would use about 5 liters/quarts in 5000, km's and that was with idling around 8 hrs a day also & 345,000 km's on it. Now i'm using a max of 2 liters with the 00 and the same miles & hours per change. If i just drove 5000 km's i doubt i'd even use 1 liter in the 00 @ 185,000km's.

If I'm doing my conversions right, your 95 uses 1 quart every 588 miles, and that motor has 214,000 miles on it.
My 95 is pretty close to that same consumption rate, and it has just shy of 200,000 miles. I'm pretty sure some of it is dripping out the darn oil cooler lines, but not sure about the rest.
PS: My friend, who came on the trip with us, told me he'd easily get 17mpg pulling that same trailer with his 2003 Ford F350 with the 7.3PS. Is that possible? I know he's got a chip in it, big exhaust, intercooler, and he runs red farm fuel.

I did not check your conversions and assume them to be correct but i also idle alot. Say 8 hrs/d minimum for 6 days/week and travel 200 km's/day minimum.
So thats 25 days of idleing @ 8 hrs/day adding 200 hrs to the engine per change. Anyone got a fudge factor for hours to km's/miles?

I would be your friend a friendly STEAK dinner that his stroke won't get any where near 17 mpg towing your trailer. He would be lucky to get 14. To prove the point, call his bluff, let him hook up with a full tank and drive normal for 50 miles and then refuel. If he gets 17 I'll buy you both dinner! P.S. this does mean drive, not idle at 40 mph.:muahaha:
