: Predator Questions?
Autobyla 02-15-2005, 10:49 AM I know the Predator is talked about a lot on this forum, but I still have a few questions?
I just orderd a Predator today from Big Dawg Performance and have yet to install it. I intend on only running the 40hp or 65hp program. I do not have gauges yet, has anyone seen high exhaust temps on either one of these settings? I run empy 90% of the time and only tow my car occationally. Do I even need gauges yet? In addition, has anyone limped there tranny on the 65hp setting?
Does the Predator correct the odometer? I know it will correct the speedometer but, will it correct the odometer for the different tire size as well?
RickDLance 02-15-2005, 11:01 AM Your sig does not say wether you have an LB7 or an LLY. The 2 are drastically differant on some things. I have the LLY and I just installed my EGT a week ago. I have not seen any tempertures that alarm me. I am however trying to test the accuracy of my gauge. I have ran the 100 hp setting for a couple of days now. I have not limped the tranny yet, but I have been cautious about the 4th-5th shift. I also run mine without the cat or muffler. That may be why my egt's are so low. I have towed with mine extensively on the 65 setting with no problems. I can not help with the odometer as I have not chaged anything there.
Heartbeat Hauler 02-15-2005, 11:03 AM Autobyla,
I don't own a Predator so I can't comment on the effects of the additional power(I have a Banks Stinger, 70hp increase no ill effects yet), but I would suggest that a guy who does any towing should install a set of guages, boost & EGT, regardless of running a tuner or not. The odo I believe will be corrected along with the speedo, it's the ABS calibration that is not corrected. A good dealer can help you with this part (ABS).

BudTX 02-15-2005, 11:03 AM I run my Predator on 65 hp and have not limped the tranny. From what I understand, you can tow up to 8000 lbs on the 65 setting. I'd be cautious about hitting it hard or running up hills on the 65 setting, as I imagine that the EGTs get up there.
Speedo changes are easy, and once you adjust it the odometer will measure accordingly.
Enigma 02-15-2005, 11:37 AM Autobyla,
I'm currently running the Predator on the 65HP setting, and have run the 40HP setting for over a month. The 65HP setting flat ground @ 70MPH shows 800 unloaded, the 40HP tune oddly enough was closer to 900 same conditions??? Uphill the 65HP tune will run up to 1100(ish) whereas the 40HP tune stays around 1000 again this is unloaded. I've pulled a few loads with the 40HP tune (9k being the heaviest) to Oregon and Las Vegas, EGT's were around 900 flat ground rising just over 1100 up hill. I'm sure if I'd have burped the throttle I'd have seen much higher EGT's, however I usually roll into the throttle for hills and roll back out of the throttle once I've crested them, that's just how I was taught. One thing to keep in mind I'm at 5000' which has an impact on EGT's.
Autobyla 02-15-2005, 12:09 PM Thanks for your replies. I am definatly intersted in getting a set of guages, but I don't know if I'm going purchase the Edge or the Banks Six Gun in the summer. Since these two programmers come with there own guage set up I think I'm going to wait until the summer to figure out what I want to run. I don't tow that often and its usually just a car or truck. Thanks again for the help.
Sollly 02-15-2005, 12:28 PM I could easily hit 1200 on my last freeway trip while going up hills. This was with no aftermarket exhaust @ 4800' elevation. Cruising about 80 on the 85 hp setting. I now have a 4" exhaust after fearing the summer boat towing season. On a side note. I was pleased by the mileage. Hand calculated 17 MPG. 1/3 was while on the 85 hp setting the remainder was on 65 setting. I have never seen this mileage on the same stretch of road before. I'm sure it's partly breaking in and some Predator. Who knows:confuzeld

I've had mine for only a few weeks, and I limped it last night on the 65 setting, unloaded on flat ground going 75. It was 55 degrees outside and unhooked. I don't get it. I planned to tow at the first setting, but I fear I will limp it again, given the minimal pressure put on it last night. I luckily had the Predator with me, and I just set it back to all the factory settings. Cleared the "Check Engine" light and move on to my appointment.
I have seen NO MPG improvements at all on either setting. But, only 2 tanks of fuel as well.
Does anyone know if the light will go out on its own, after cooling down?
BarryD 02-15-2005, 03:10 PM I have run the 65 for a couple of months before the winter and have had it on 65 for the last three weeks. I have never limped the transmission. I don't hold back and am very pleased with the performance. I have gauges and have never seen EGT above 1000. I don't use it for towing. I use the Stock tune in TOW/HAUL mode.
RickDLance 02-15-2005, 04:43 PM BarryD, tell me more about your egt. I just put a gauge in mine and told somebody the other day on here that I got not get over 900. They told me my gauge must be wrong. Have you yanked the cat?
skoryaro2 02-15-2005, 04:51 PM Not to hijack this thread but, seeing as though it's about "Predator Questions"...........while using the LLY Predator in live diagnostics I can't seem to get anything but a 0% boost reading. Does anyone know why?
I've sen a similar question posted before but will be darned if I can find it again via search :(
