Hi everyone! I'm a newbie to the site. I have a 2002 Chevy 2500HD 4WD truck. I would like to upgrade my brakes to a heavy duty system. Baer brakes is a reputable name, and I have checked with them. They do not make a kit for my truck. Does anyone know how I can fullfill this upgrade? Thanks!

My current info shows Baer brakes for our trucks but they didn't have anything ready to go yet. They are supposed to notify me when they are ready to go.

do you really think that you need them?? the brakes on these trucks are already outstanding, most guys have got upwards of 70,000 miles on the original brakes, I am al 47,000 mi. and my brakes still look brand new. I have run with 35's since the truck had 15,000 miles and as near as I can tell the brakes work just as well as they did with the stock tires. JMHO -Jeff

Depends on the truck. My Sierra with stock tires stops much better than my lifted Silverado with 37s. The brakes can never be to good while towing.

true, but if you can remember to give yourself that extra distance you should be ok, the problem is remembering....

Normal driving is fine but it's those emergency situations when you have to stop now. Let the woman a few hundrew feet in front of me that started to go when the light turned green. I looked into the other lane for a second and then looked back to see her totally stopped. I'm glad I can turn quick! :)

I have 122k miles. Original brakes.

I think the brakes are great on my 02 HD. I have a 99 Z-71 with disc front and JB5 drum in the rear and they TOTALLY SUCK. JB5 has to be the worst drum brake design ever. IF the truck would have had JB6 drums I'd probably never started looking for an HD.

Hey guys, thanks for all your input. There was a question by wsucowboy, AKA Jeff, regarding if I really need upgrade brakes. Ever since I put the 33's (which is not big at all compared to many, but bigger than stock), I have noticed a difference in stoping distance and brake application. The brake feels a little soft. Even after bleeding the lines just to make sure there ws no air in them.

I am looking for just a little more of a safety net. I tow between 11,000-12,500 lbs of trailers. I am haulin doubles. I know I have trailer brakes on both sets, but I would like some extra comfort knowing that I have heavy duty brakes on my HD.

So, with that being said, I hope to upgrade my brakes in the near future. If any one knows of who may have brakes for my 2002 2500HD 4WD. Let me know. I will be keeping an eye on Baer brakes.

I don't know much about stainless steel brakes but this new product of theirs was at sema this year. It might be worth taking a look at.

edit: Looks like wilwood is coming out with some big brake kits too. 16" rotors and 6 piston calipers. But I imagine you'd need pretty big wheels to run that brake system

My truck is new enough that I haven't pulled much yet, so I can't really comment there. However, I did have a hard time adjusting to my D-Max braking from my 6.0 gasser because the diesel has little to no engine braking at slow speeds. I find myself using tow/haul in traffic to compensate.

I was cosidering doing a big brake upgrade from stillin they where sweet 14 inch drilled and sloted rotors and six piston callipers but holey ***** where they pricey over $3000 canadian plus tax for the front alone. And $600 for the rear disks. I will get them when i have the cash cuz they are RILLY nice but you gotta dish out sum major $$$$$$
