I just had my truck reflashed last week and was curious what folks were seeing for injector balance rates. Mine are posted below.

Also I would be interested if someone could explain balance rates. Optimally, do you want your balance rates right around zero? My understanding is that in park they can be between -4 to 4 and in drive they can be between -6 to 6. However, from the Duramax Diesle Diagnostic Tips (http://service.gm.com/gmtechlink/arcv_pdf/7_01_e.pdf) it mentions a range of -2.4 to 2.4.

:help: I need an education!!!!

TIA

Coolant Temp: 200*

Park: Drive w/foot on brake:
-0.66 -0.02
3.77 3.50
-1.46 -0.82
-1.30 -0.77
-2.21 -2.88
-2.32 -2.75
-1.65 -2.27
-0.44 -0.73

I think the magic number is +/- 6.0 ... your's look normal. All mine are +/- 2.5 and my #7 acts up occasionally and shows around 4.0-4.5.

I don't know the exact # for sure, but I do know that GM upped it on the LLY.

Here is what the PIP says about the balance rates..

1. High positive injector balance rates (over +4.0 in park or +6.0 in drive) may be
causing white smoke at idle or while driving.

5. If there is still a mechanical concern with an injector, and balance rates are still
over the SI specification of +4.0 in park or +6.0 in drive, replace only the effected
injector.

Thanks everyone for the input.

Prior to the reflash my number two would spike up to around 10.0 and the truck would just shake at idle. It occasionally still goes over 4.0 in park. I do notice that when one injector spikes high, the others tend to go very low, down to -6.0 in some cases when the trouble injector was up around 10.

Are the balance rates related to or somehow reflective of the amount of fuel that is getting returned to the fuel tank? I am assuming that if one injector is high then it is putting more fuel into the engine. What does it mean for the injectors with negative numbers? Are they somehow compensating for the high injector by putting less fuel into the engine?

I have a theory that the closer to zero the balance rates are, the more efficient the engine will be and the better your gas mileage will be.

The balance rates are how much fuel the Fuel Injection Control Module is adding or taking away to keep the engine idling smoothly.
