I've been changing mine around 10,000 miles. To change it, put an pan under it, loosen with a strap wrench or filter wrench, unscrew to remove. Install is the reverse but most pre-fill the new filter as the OEM is downstream still to catch any contaminants.

10,000 is a bit early, but surely doesn't hurt anything and the element is inexpensive. you can run 18-20k on it without problems, barring a load of bad fuel of course..

if you pre-fill it you won't have to prime the system once you install the new filter.

I went nearly 15,000 miles before I changed mine. I didn't fill the cat filter first. Just put it on, started the truck and let it run till it died. Then I replaced the OEM filter and primed the system.

Yep, but I figure as cheap as they are and as simple as it is to change, then I shouldn't have any probs on the road.

I have changed once, at about 18K miles.

Make sure you keep a spare on hand and with you on the road!
