: Who makes their own Bio?

(didn't know what other forum to put this in)

I'm looking into making my own Biodiesel. I don't want to buy a big set-up...I'd like to make my own for a lot cheaper. I found this link- http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_make.html#biodnew

They say it's easy to make and anyone can do it. Well, I don't think that they're super clear on what to do...maybe it's just over my head. I'd like to know how much of each ingredient I need, where I can get it and how much it's going to cost per gallon. From what I read of that link it looks like more hassle than it's worth...trying to perfect the formula and setting up a whole rig to make it.

These diesel prices are killing me. The price per gallon by work is $4.59!!! It costed me over $105 to fill my tank this week. I don't use my truck to haul stuff a lot...only occasionally. I go through 1 tank per week and I can't justify that cost anymore. I love my truck but I can't keep spending that kind of money.

Will somebody who knows about Bio clue me in on everything in simplest terms?

First of all, that info on journey to forever (more like journey to nowhere) is outdated and wrong. Try biodiesel.infopop.cc (http://biodiesel.infopop.cc).They have a lot better info and knowledgeable people

What ever you do, don't try diesel secret. That stuff is just snake oil.

Bio is not too difficult to do. But the ingredient amounts are not the same every time. You have to test the oil to determine how much of what ingredient is needed

try www.dieselsecret.com (http://www.dieselsecret.com) works for me DO WHAT!!!! Man don't steer the man in the wrong direction...:thumbsdow Xylene, Benzene, gasoline, or even dimethylbenzene does not go in my engine for sure. If it thins down VO/WVO thats great, it isn't biodiesel. IT is a bad combination.....

Do you guys think it's worth the time and effort to make this stuff? Sounds like a pain in the butt. How much can you make at once, and how long does it take you?

Is it worth it? $4.59 vs. $.95.......I guess to answer your question with a question, how much is your time worth? I won't lie, its a burger to get started but once you do get a system established and working...you will have to trade a couple 2 or 3 hour blocks of free time during the week to make your fuel...

Your batch quantity will of course depend on how big of processor you build/buy.

Ok, I said that to myself before too. So 2-3 hours a week making it? That's not too bad I guess...it'd be worth it.

Who here on DP has made their own Processor? I'd like to make my own if I keep my truck. The processors you buy are too much for me when i could build one. Is there anyone here that could help me out step by step?

1.what do I need to build a processor?
2.what ingredients do I need?
3.where's the best places to get the ingredients from?

Been running an appleseed processor for over 2 years now with no problems at all.You will have to change the hoses over time but that is to be expected and I don't have 8000 invested in mine.:D

How many miles a year are you guys driving. I have been starting to crunch the dollars costs versis to build or buy the equipment, pay for the supplys to convert to the bio. Then the time to run around gathering the waste oil if you can find it. I have hit 15 places so far & only 1 will sell it to me & thats at 65 cents a gallon the going rate the biggies are paying here. Now for my time I make about $35.00 & hr real money for my shop time my labor rate is $55 but I never make that. For all the extra effort of running around gathering the waste oil, methonal, lie ect. Then the time messing around to make a batch the Dollar savings is just not in the #s for me. 1/2 more billable hr a week for me covers the cost of fuel differance versis driving my little gasser truck. I love driving my Diesel just dont like getting gouged at the pump but gas is almost as bad.

You should google murphys machines, utah bio diesel supply, bio diesel now forum, bio-pro and just be a sponge and read alot, you will learn tons, you will then be able to focus in on what you want to do specifically, financially and you could then start. good luck

For you guys that have free time to chase around & gather wvo more power to you. I am just way to busy in my shop building new hand formed steel 1935 & 1936 Ford roadster bodys & replacement panel. I bought my 3500 dully to pull my big 36 ft fith wheel car haul trailer when need as my 88 gasser dully is tired. I thought doing the bio fuel would save me a lot but not realy that much for my time & effort. On average I dont even burn 1/2 a tank of fuel a week unless I have to pull my trailer & at present that is only 6 shows a year 4 with in 20 mi 1 way & 2 50 mi one way. Now if i was burning 40 plus gallons every week I would look at it differant so More power to you guys that wish to spend the time & effort.
