: WHIPPED OUT THE BIG 4"
bowtie65 02-14-2005, 08:06 PM Hey Guys Just Had A New 4"stainless Exhaust Put On Today And I Am Pleased To Say The Least. This Thing Is Sick!!!!! The Sound It Makes Is Sweet. You Cant Believe The Whistle From The Turbo Either. Even A Powerstroker Was Impressed That The Sound Was From A 6.5.
Turbine Doc 02-14-2005, 08:19 PM Whip it, whip it good, as they say in an old Devo Tune, the quest begins, power junkie in early stages, you will need to find a support group next.
"Hi my name is Tie 6.5" I have a addiction started innocently at 1st it sort of slipped up on me, before I knew it, I had a thirst for more, Hi-Pops, reflashes, ICs, 18:1s where does it stop ya''ll
"Hi Tie" I'm TD & I know your pain together we will get through it, the disease isn't curable, but you can learn to live with & manage your addiction:D
bowtie65 02-14-2005, 08:28 PM I LIVE FOR THIS. IT IS A SICKNESS. CHECK OUT MY REPLY TO ( MY FIRST MONTH WITH MY 6.5 NOW SHOULD I SELL IT.) I HAVE HAD MY TRUCK SINCE 95 AND NOW I AM FINALLY ENJOYING IT.
crowne 02-17-2005, 08:48 PM bowtie65> How loud is it in the cab? I want the same sickness :ro) but I still want to talk to my wife when where traveling. ):h
dmitch 02-18-2005, 09:04 AM TDG hit the nail on the head. This is my first diesel and it is no doubt addictive. This thing isn't just a vehicle, it's turned into a hobby.
Firefighter 02-18-2005, 11:00 AM They are nice in the cab even straight piped. Trust me, the wife wouldn't have it any other way. Kinda similar to a well muffled strong big block. The turbo acts like a built in muffler (to a point) and the only time it gets a little loud is if you are pulling a steep hill Or on the throttle hard and your tail pipe is going by a bunch of no posts. The other thing that the straight pipe is great for is putting those little ricers back in their place! LOL:joke: But it is cheap and easy to try even with a stock exhaust just to get an idea. All you have to do is scavenge a peice of pipe long enough to replace the muffler and if you don't like it, put the muffler back in. Give it a try, you might be surprised. Oh, but if inspections are big where you live, you might not want it as a permanent thing.
bowtie65 02-19-2005, 08:33 AM crowne, do you mean you talk to your wife? i communicate to mine with hand signals, usually one finger. lol. no problem if you want to hear what she says to you or if she wants to listen to you. the turbo makes a nice muffler. nice sounding system, mellow, sort of if i were to explain it. if you lose the snorkel the turbo whistle at spool up is unbelievable. gm built great cabs for noise control. you will be surprised. by the way i have owned my truck ten years and i can count on my middle finger how many times my wife has been in my truck. once. she said diesels are for busses. she does'nt know what she's missing.
nineD5wonton 02-19-2005, 03:38 PM Does anyone have a picture of this snorkle after it's been pulled out? What's it look like? How hard is it to remove?
CanadianRigger 02-19-2005, 04:14 PM You can find it here in the Tech Tips.

nineD5wonton 02-19-2005, 09:00 PM Thanks, I actually saw that before, and forgot about that. That's gonna be my Sunday Mod. After the 500!
War Wagon 02-20-2005, 05:08 PM As long as an exaust is piped all the way to the back the cab noise isn't bad.
bowtie65 02-21-2005, 04:50 PM exhaust exits same as stock. right behind passenger side tire. had my last turn bent at a 45 degree angle instead of a 90 for smoother flow. mine exits a bit further back.
nineD5wonton 02-21-2005, 10:33 PM Is the cross-over pipe a big deal? Mine must have been replaced, but has many kinks in it? What does yours look like?
MrTailLight 02-21-2005, 11:02 PM removing the snorkle seemed to be a HUGE difference. the better the air flow, the better running engine you have. also, you might want to check your upper plentum and see if you can cut out the extra casting as described in the previous threads from www.kennedydiesel.com (http://www.kennedydiesel.com)
i was able to pull out the snorkle out in about 5 minutes....but the fender was off! i kinda cheated :ro)
i also installed the 4" exhaust system, and between the 2 of these mods, it felt like i got a new truck.
bowtie65 02-22-2005, 04:25 PM crossover is mandrell bent smooth no kinks. mine is a flowmaster if i believe. i think john kennedy has a much nicer one that is actually ceramic coated on inside for smoother flow. that will be my next purchase. my 4" system is kind of unique. i had mine custom bent with longer sweeping bends instead of tight ones that restrict air flow. the guy who did it was real cool about it cause he is a fellow diesel owner. he knew exactly what i was after. if they could only make do it yourself kits like that everyone would have one. i paid $490.00 u.s. installed from down pipe back and i thought it was a steal compared to what some kits sell for alone.
nineD5wonton 02-22-2005, 04:45 PM I'm slowly getting mods done. I'm working 2 jobs right now, so spare time is not easy to come by. I can't believe the Banks exhaust on the truck didn't come w/ a better crossover. Everything else is nice. Hmph. I'm gonna wait to do the upper intake till I get my gauges. I'll get there some day, haha.... Thanks for the input..
bowtie65 02-22-2005, 04:52 PM banks would like to forget that the 6.5 ever existed. they offer nothing for the 6.5 anymore except the exhaust system. thats a joke. the real joke is how much buisness they are losing to kennedy and heath!
PleaSuriveSix5 02-22-2005, 07:01 PM Ive been trying to decide which exhaust to get for 4 months now. My first thought was to just get a flowmaster kit and find somebody who can bend 4 and go that route. Then after about 73 calls later I found out nobody bends 4 within 300 miles of IL. The only person I found was a commercial electrician but his 90 degree bend would be about 3' long. So after talking to a hole in the wall exhaust guy he gave me some prices at cost on 4" pipe. FWIW/IIRC a 4 inch,8' stick of 14 gauge, aluminized pipe was $26. A standard 90 was about the same. I would think that 3 90's and 1 stick would do a "behind rear tire" exhaust. Then I thought "ahead rear tire" is cheaper. Maybe im just a cheap ___.

bowtie65 02-22-2005, 07:24 PM pleasurvivesixfive, check out some places that do exhausts on big rigs. they have all the goodies to do 4" and 5" custom bending. if they cant wrench on yours you could take measurements and pay them to bend it for you. you could also check out some equipment rental places and see if they rent out mandrell benders with a 4" shoe and bend it yourself.
stezlaki 02-22-2005, 11:07 PM i paid $490.00 u.s. installed from down pipe back and i thought it was a steal compared to what some kits sell for alone. And that was for stainless 4"?
crowne 02-23-2005, 08:19 PM bowtie65>Any chance I can hear a video clip on your exhaust?
bowtie65 02-23-2005, 08:43 PM sorry i dont have video capabilities. i think canadianrigger has on one of his posts. mine sounds just like it.
bowtie65 02-24-2005, 05:44 AM stezlaki, don't fool yourself on the price of stainless. it is quite affordable. especailly if 10 feet of it doesnt even have a bend in it.
bowtie65 02-28-2005, 06:38 PM stezlaki, the guy who did my exhaust said that there are some midas shops that can bend 4" pipe. not all. i dont know if there are any in your area but if there are you may want to call them. in my area they are everywhere. also take into consideration there is no muffler and no cat on my system. that drastically reduces the cost of the system. there is also two types of pipe. seamed and seamless. seamed has a weld going right down it and you can see it. that is the type of pipe i have. i am aware that it is the cheaper of the two. i dont know what seamless pipe costs but i am very happy with mine.
