: Painless wiring headlight kit

I have been reading the posts regarding the use of a diode and jumper to keep the low beams on in sync with the high beams. Is there any advantage to the Painless wiring headlight kit? From the posts I have seen, it appears that the diode system is the KISS way to go with no ill effects. Am I missing anything?
Any input is appreciated.

i have had no complants with it yet. not big on the stochlocks but other than that its a go!

the diode trick only cost about $1.00 to do.

i have the painless headlight conversion. the only reason i got it is it was a clean install. everything was there and went in with no problems.

I downloaded the info from the painless site (wiring diagrams) and just bought the relay myself. I think you can get a kit for about $5-$10. I bought everything separately and it cost a little more than the daytime running light kit. The only reason I bought the relay separtely was to have my fog lights come on automatically. Also, When I put my high beams on my fog lights stay on and the DRLs come on. Pretty simple. Just have to have a basic electronics knowledge. If I would have read about the diode thing before, I probably would have done it since it already uses existing wiring.

I did the diode trick and it was so simple. When bought the diode at Radio Shack, I could only buy them by the pair...so, I made up a second one. My boss watched me install mine and saw the results...after a week he asked me to install it on his. He was very impressed and both work fantastic - no problems. This is the only way to go as it's simple, cheap and works very well. Even my service manager researched it and did it to his rig...said it was a fantastic thing to know and do.

What's the rundown on having the foglights come on automatically? There used to be a company made something for this but they closed.

I must have came in to this topic a little late. What is all the talk about a diode and how can I get more info. I would like to have my hi's & lo's on at the same time. I tried the device that you can purchase from Stylin Concepts. It worked, but when all the lights were on, they were dim. I did not like this, so I to it off.

So if someone would not mind cluing me in on the diode, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I got tired of pushing the button to turn on the foglights all the time so I decided to use a relay to turn them on. It works pretty good. It's because GM went to using a momentary pushbutton. The pushbutton swaps a relay too, but I have the foglights come on when the low beams come on. I don't know the reasoning behind this, but I did have problems with the switch on my pontiac.

Buy JK's head light kit. Its good quality, easy to install and will give you a little brighter lights because its heavier wire.
