Starting at about 65 mph and gets louder as you speed up.......It is comming from the driver side and it sounds like metal tapping on the windshield.......Driving me freaking NUTS......anybody ever have this?

Do you have a rock guard/bug shield on the hood? If so, that's likely the culprit b/c it disturbs the airflow over the cab and causes the rubber trim on the windshield to flap like a madman at highway speeds.

Take off your aftermarket bug deflector ;)

Do you have a bug deflector on the front of the hood. If so then it is the air deflecting aroung the rubber of the windshield. Use 3m 2-sided tape under the weather stripping to remedy this.

Yes I have a deflector......Guess I will live with the noise....The deflector just looks soooo damn cool.

Its usually the rubber flaps around the hinges on the cowl or the window seal it self, you can try securing the flaps and /or installing some urathane in the molding around the windsheild

I must say that I am really suprised that the moulding would make this noise.....The reason it did not occure to me is.....The moulding on this glass is actually bonded to the windshield....It is not something that is purchased in addition to............I have never heard this kind of noise come from a bonded glass. I will seal it up tomorrow though........At first I thought it was the rubber flaps over the edge cowl screws....I secured that....was not the problem.

Interesting, but I have to ask. How do you keep the paint on the hood edge and the rocks off? I've always had Fords with deflectors. Was about to put one on the GMC.

You can put them on the GMC or have one painted on with the same material for the spray in liners. if you use a bug deflector, buy some double sided molding tape and secure the sides down on the windshield. It uses a torx bit, small in size, in order to remove it. You can remove all screws except the last one and flex it back enough to get the tape on the flap. Then push it back down on the windshield and place all the screws back in. Then rub your hand over the whole thing several times, applying pressure, to ensure and good set. If your weather is under 70 degrees, get a hair dryer or heat gun, and blow heat on it as you rub it. The adhesive in the 3m tape secures best when the materials are at or above 70 degrees.

this will get rid of the noise. some call it a rattle but i think it sounds like riding through a heavy rain storm. I first learned of this on my 02 avalanche 2500 that I had.

Mine makes that tapping sound he described with NO bug deflector it drives me nuts to gotta turn up the stereo.

I have the same thing on the passenger side. (AVS Bug Guard) I have been losing my marbles over this for about a month and a half, but have never remembered to ask here on the DP (get a little caught up in the pwer and performance pages). I don't remember seeing it at WallyWorld, but I got mine at a automotive paint store. $22 for a 30 foot roll IIRC. It is the same tape used for molding and such, good stick'um :ro)

I had this exact problem, but mine was more of a rattle and squeek. I am anal about little sounds in the cab so it drove me insane.

The fix? I adjusted the door latches themselves on the side and rear doors, sound gone, cab quiet again. It was the actual door that was shaking and rattling. My other HD had this problem with the passenger doors as well, adjusted latch and done.
