Are the long (4"ish) bolts (with 1/2" stud) on the pass side critical to have? Well yeah, I know I need bolt to attach manifold to head, but I mangled mine getting it unstuck. I'm just wondering if I can just use a regular bolt from local hardware store or does it have to be OEM? Whats that stub for anyways?

Also, my gasket on the oil return tube is shot. Can I use part of my intake gasket (the thin part connecting opening 1 and 2) the bolt holes almost line up perfectly and all I would have to do is cut the actual return opening and install. And yes, I'm really that cheap. 'Sides, the dealer isn't open on Sunday and they'd probably have to order it anyways..

Thanks in advance,

i would try to get grade 8 bolts for replacement, not sure if stock is metric or standard.do not use the grade 5 crap from the hardware store, they are like butter. and no there is no need for the stub stud if it was not used anyway.

for gasket you can use anything handy, you can get gasket material on the roll or sheet too.to make your own

Thanks Bison

Stainless doesn't expand and contract at the same rate as standard bolts when heated and will only cause problems. Why do you think they don't use stainless bolts on manifolds from the factory?

x2. Stainless will expand more with temp. variances, this could lead to exhaust leaks. Leo

I attributed them not using stainless due to the cost factor. Lets face it, the general went cheap when it could get away with it (and not risk safety). Not sure if GR 8 is overkill, its not supporting thousands of pounds (not trying to be a wise acre) and I don't see the manifold sheering away.

I'd still like to know why there is a threaded nub at the other end of the long bolt.

Thanks guys,
