So I am experiencing a clunking noise when i turn and the steering seems real loose. I jacked up one front tire and left one on the ground. I checked play in the tire first at 6 and 12 oclock. There was not play in this direction. I then tried at 3 and 9 oclock. The wheel will move probably 2 - 3 inches left and right. The tie rods seem good. What do you think idler arm and pitman arm??
Thanks

Try leaving it on the ground and have some one turn the steering wheel back and forth while you look underneath at all steering joints. Including steering box and the steering shaft from firewall to box.

It really sounds like it is coming from the pittman/idler arm assembly. Any way to be sure what the problem is?

As I stated and either way you do it,move steering wheel or raise and move tire. It will take 2 ppl so one can look every where for the play.

Ya, you'll get some play on the idler and pitman. Get a Cognito brace kit. It will help tighten up the front end
