: $17.00 for a starter bracket?!

So I finally got a GR starter from a 6.5 to replace my tired DD starter. First off the DD starter didn't even have the bracket on the front of it like it should have but luckily no damage has been done. So I called up the stealership to get a bracket, which from what i've read on here shouldn't have been more than $5, and they quoted me $17!! Anywho I have seen some homemade ones on here and was wondering if I could see pics of all the people that have made their own and an explanation of how they made it. There's no way I am paying $17 for a piece of steel that took $0.50 to make.

I made one, and it lasted for about 3 months (....guessing) anyway it broke the stud off the back of my starter. So I haven't had one for about a year. Its on the list of things to fix. When I get to it I plan to use the GM bracket.
I would just bite it and get the GM bracket or see if you cant pick one up in a local junkyard for cheaper.

Yeah, $17 is nothing in the scheme of things and when it comes to car repairs it's cheap. Costs me more than that for 2 gallons of Rotella to change the oil in mine.

You are right, however, you could make a bracket like that pretty easily out of a piece of steel. Really all you need is a piece of angle iron. Measure, drill holes, cut along the corner lengthwise on the one end to make the angle you need, trim off the excess and weld the corner back up. Hmmm. Hard to describe, pretty easy to do, and there's probably an easier way still. That's just what comes to mind.

Yeah, I guess it's not really the price that I don't like its more of the price gouging. I hate to support a business that reams so many people out, but I guess I gotta do what I gotta do.

I agree on the price gouging, go see a wrecker. Lets see 17$ for bracket and lets now price out a block........

The engine is no longer in production so of course the price goes up. $17 is nothing, if your upset, get a bicycle, :D

All I am saying is that I have read numerous recent posts about it costing $5.00 at the most. Seems silly that there would be such a variance if other dealerships are selling them so cheap. Thats a 200% increase in price.

It might be easy to make a bracket as long as you have one to duplicate from, trying to acuratly measure dimensions in the truck is near imposible unless one has eyes on a stalk to peek in the limited space avalable.

I believe the part number is 23502557. If not it is just a starter bracket from a 6.5. turbovanman, if your GM dealership is round $17 I guess I will buy it from my dealership, the reason I didn't want to buy it was because of the low prices I keep reading that people are getting these for; seems weird that only my dealer is way higher.

I posted in your thread. sorry bud, dealer only part. go back to dealership or go to the next one, give the guy behind the counter a slap and tell him you'll punch him in the nuts next. he'll find the part. Or you could go back with the part # above and order one. If you don't know if it's gear reduction or direct grive order one of each. Mine was less than $15 and I live in price gouging Canada

I would just buy the part even at 17 dollars. I love going to the junkyard, but the chances of finding a 6.5 are slim, one with a bracket even less, if that is the only reason your going it isn't worth 12 dollar difference in cost. Around here it costs 2 dollars to enter the pick and pull, so your down to 10 dollars difference and the cost of a bandaid.

Dealer only part, no matter what country your in. You will not find it for sale on the internet, unless it's attached to the engine or attached to a used starter(very unlikely).

Don't know what shipping would be.

Prices are definitely high. I just bought intake gaskets for a 3.1, list price was $67. Two o-rings listed for over $13.

.........I don't think he had a gun........wait, maybe.........I'm not sure!!!!!!

Geez, now, after all that, I have to go back, he shorted me one small gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I called the chevy dealership 3 times and on the 3rd try someone actually found what I was looking for. Make sure you state you are wanting the 'Support Bracket' for the starter.

It's about $15.00 not sure why many of ya worry about the cost it is what it is. Better than towing every month and the time spent needed to get the broken bolt out.

For the 6.2 diesel the part # is #2350 2557
