Just got done doing the HOOT method. My question is: Does the filter rest on the bottom of the pan? (shallow pan) Because I heard a small rattle when I hit the bottom of the pan with my fist to make sure the pan was on good. I would hate to think the filter came loose.

The filter should not sit on the bottom of the pan b/c it sucks in fluid from the whole in the bottom of it.
That would worry me... I would have just pulled the pan down to see. if it's touching and vibrating something going on.

If you changed the internal filter did you remove the old filter seal, if not. you may have two seals there when you installed the new filter which would make the filter lower in the pan and it would hit the pan.

I did that on a 700 R4 in my 86 chevy 4x4 and it was a 1100.00 lesson. After a few miles I lost the trans because the filter slipped down due to not being seated correctly with the old seal still in there. The filter appeared to be seated up in the tube when I put the pan on but it was noticably lower and when I put the pan on I tell the filter was touching. The fitler fell out on tear down when I removed the pan.

Well I took the pan down and the filter was up in there nice and tight. I guess we'll see how it goes.
