What has been anyone’s experience on ordering from the internet?
I’m thinking of sites like auto by tel (?) etc.

I haven’t ordered anything yet but was very close to getting a 2500HD this past summer but had to walk away from it for various reasons. Family problems with the stepson (read money)!!!

But anyway I did use some of the web sites to price out the truck and went to my local Chevy dealer but am glad it didn’t work out as he was going to hose me!

I think next time I do this I might fax dealers within a 1 or 2 hundred mile radius and see who will come up with a price that comes close to what I find on the net to be a dealer cost.

Business must make a reasonable profit and I certainly understand this but when it becomes excessive is when I need to keep looking!!

Zoom,

I started by researching all the main car buying sites along with the GM sites to find out exactly what I wanted and the invoice price for everthing. This gave me a good starting point to bargin from. I then emailed just about every dealer in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. I got a lot of Bull from some and some who were willing to deal. I just deleted everyone who was full of bull and then got serious with everyone else. I told them I wanted their bottom line price on an exact list of what I wanted. Then from their replys I narrowed the list again to a hand full of dealers. I then contacted each one again and told them "surely you can do better than this". Then I took those replys (some offered even less money this time) And showed the lowest price to the other dealers and had them start bidding against each other. This is when it got fun. At this point you are not dealing with a salesman, you are dealing directly with a fleet manager. This guy does not have to go into a room and present your offer to anyone. Then finally I can't get them to come down any more and all but two drop out of the race. I take the offer from the lowest dealer to my old dealer (he doen't have an internet site) and lay the offer on my old salesmans desk and tell him meet or beat this deal and I will sign the papers right now. This gets him salivating right away and he runs off to his bosses office to "crunch the numbers". 20 minutes later him and his boss come back and tell me they just can't do it and there offer is a little over $3000 more. The price I finally got was far better than I have ever negociated before. I even checked the Costco price and it was a couple of $1000 more. If your willing to head out hear or for anyone who is interested I will tell you the name of the dealer that really won out as far as the best price and willing to deal. Best of luck and knowledge is POWER.

I used the www.carsdirect.com (http://www.carsdirect.com) site to research prices and rebate information. Took it to a local dealer, and told him he would have to do as well or better, and he did.

RUQWKNF27, there is an extra discount $500 ,I think, for supplier discount people.
Eligible participants in the GM Supplier program now get $500 additional bonus on the purchase of any new and unused 2003 or 2004 Chevrolet excluding SSR. Must take delivery by 01/02/04. See your local Chevy dealer for details.

I looked at GM incentives and I see $4250 rebate/discount and I think we can still the $1000 downpayment match.

Read the fine print on the Buypower website about the $750 Gms Bonus Cash. It can't be combined w/down payment match http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif.

I shop the Buypower website and then call the dealers, and the ones with good service get my business.

I am looking at two '04 CC D/A SB trucks and I got a price of 36.7k and 38k (GMS) BEFORE the rebates. I'm in the mid atlantic (DE) and get $3500 plus $1000 for Down Pay match. These are SLE trucks but WOW! How can you not buy @ 32-33k for this truck? MSRPs are 44.5-45k. It is really nice being GMShttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif not only for the price, but because of the lack of dealer BS!

Also if anyone elso out there is GMS, shop for financing. I found that one way the dealers make some money on these GMS deals is by holding points on the leasing and financing. One of the dealers I went to was trying to hold a full point! (For the life of the loan!) Most people think GMS deals are all the same, this point made about 20 bucks in my payment.

I also shop the internet for mortgage and loan rates. They seem to be better than any local banks. Best rate I've found was 5.19 @ Capital one...vs 7%+ at my locals. The better rate pays my insurance.

Sorry to be so long winded...Just stressing the point that better deals are out there on the net! Use it!

The LLY Duramax engine has just replaced the LB7 Duramax. Here is some info for ya;

FOR RELEASE: December 5, 2003

Duramax 6600 Provides Major Improvements In Power, Torque, and Emissions

PONTIAC, MICH. - GM's Duramax 6600 6.6L turbo-diesel V-8 engine will provide higher power and torque ratings and major emission improvements beginning in January 2004.

Silverado and Sierra 2500HD and 3500 Series trucks with the Duramax 6600 and the Allison automatic transmission will receive a new version of the engine with 310 hp @ 3000 rpm, 10 more horsepower than before. The engine also features a higher torque rating of 590 lb-ft @ 1600 rpm, a 70 lb-ft increase over its previous maximum high. At the same time, Duramax 6600 NOx emissions have been reduced almost by half.

"Since its introduction in 2001, the Duramax 6600 has re-established GM in the full-size diesel powered truck market by increasing our share of the segment to nearly 30 percent," said Charlie Freese, executive director, diesel engineering for GM Powertrain.

Silverado and Sierra models with the Duramax 6600 and a standard ZF S6-650 six-speed manual transmission receive the same emissions improvements as those with the Allison 1000, with carryover power ratings.

"Over 90 percent of our three-quarter and one-ton customers order their Duramax 6600 with the Allison 1000 five-speed automatic transmission - prompting us to focus on power, torque and emissions improvements, where they provide greatest benefits for the largest number of customers," Freese said.

Both the new version of the Duramax 6600 turbo diesel with the Allison automatic transmission and the version with the standard ZF six-speed manual feature improved hardware. The new version also has additional software calibration changes to help provide its higher power output.

Primary hardware changes include a variable nozzle turbocharger, new electronic control module, next-generation fuel injectors, electronically controlled cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), 50 state catalytic converter usage, improved charge air-cooling and a closed crankcase ventilation system:

The common rail fuel system also uses smaller, more precisely machined and positioned next-generation fuel injectors to inject its fuel pulses into the cylinders. The injectors are now fully accessible, allowing service technicians to access them without having to take the cylinder head cover off. Servicing is typically required only every 100,000 miles or more.

The new variable nozzle turbocharger features vanes that are now hydraulically controlled to precisely adjust the level of boost generated by the turbocharger.

A more powerful, 32-bit, next-generation engine control module provides the capabilities for integrated control of the additional engine hardware. The new engine controller provides faster microprocessor speeds, increased throughput and more memory than the previous generation controller.

The EGR system in conjunction with catalytic converter usage reduces NOx emissions in all 50 states to approximately 2 grams per brake horsepower hour from a previous 4 grams in 49 states and 3.5 grams in California.

Ok I'm getting happy now. Got a call from Howard today (thanks Howard) Seems my truck is on it's way. Was shipped 1/9/04 and heading my way. It will be great when it finally arrives. Maybe I'll be able to think about something else for a change. Next time I'm buying off the lothttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif.
