Found a wreck ambulance with a 6.5 at the junkyard, been suspicious of my pcm for a while. They wanted $70 for the pcm. Have talked to the stealer and it would be $35 for a reflash. Have a couple of questions.
1. Do I just need a reflash?
2. Did GM update their software for performance, runnability, etc...?
3. Are there any other parts I should get while I'm at it?

What makes you suspicious of current PCM, they rarely go bad, $70 for a core is good buy get it, you'll want that for reflashing down the road, what was the config of the ambulance, 25/3500 ?, 4x4?, rear diff ratio???, take money you'd have to flash at dealers, & put it toward a performance flash money far better spent there.

Mite be able to work a trade of one of your cores to help offset cost of a flash, cores for 6.5s are getting fewer & harder to find

I believe the ambulance was a 3500 and the counter guy thought it had 4.56??? gears in it. I will buy it. The truck is problematic (no WTS light)with temp. swings Iamdave had same problems, take pcm inside warm it up and reinstall and truck will run. I've gone through grounds a bunch of times. Have a new ignition switch. Right now have wiring harness apart for inspection of grounds being junction together in wiring harness. Can't find the smoking gun.

so you've been reading of my misfortune with my factory PCM. turbine doc is correct however. they rarely go bad, but it seems you have the same symptoms that mine did, and replacing the ECM with a heath HP4 did the trick*keeps fingers crossed*:D:eek:
