I did the obligitory search and did not find the answer I was looking for so here goes.
I recently took a 200 mile trip. All freeway. Going up I had the Predator on 85 and EGT's while travelling 80 were usually around 900 deg. Going up hills it would approach 1200. Coming back I bumped the Pred down to 65 and the EGT's stayed around 800 deg. I will be pulling a boat this summer on the 40 tune. I'm concerned with the EGT's. Will any harm be done by running at 900-1000 for extended periods? I know the answer is exhaust, but I don't have the quid right now. What does a stock LLY run for EGT's?? I haven't checked yet. I don't go over 1250 degrees, but I'm worried about towing the boat up hills. Thanks guys.

Sollly, running at 900-1000 for long periods of time is totaly safe. That's well within the safe zone. However, don't expect that if you don't change your exhaust. If your pulling any sort of load, even on the 40hp tune, you'll quickly be in the 12-1300 range quickly on hills without a free-flowing exhaust. Just dont lug it. Lock out the overdrive on long, steep hills to keep the boost up and egts down.

I am at 4700' above sea level. Doing 75-80 mph unloaded I see EGTs around 800-900*. This is with a stock intake, stock exhaust, and stock tune. It will be interesting to see what the EGTs are when I start to tow the 8000# fiver this summer.

You can save some wood by just removing the cat for now. Should drop EGT about 125 degrees.

Good idea. Anyone know what the state of Utah's policy is on removing the cat off a diesel? Emissions testing?? Warranty void?

Hey Solly I'm just north of you in Idaho. I am not sure the exact details of UT emissions testing, but IIRC aren't they pretty strict?

You might want to keep the kitty around for when they sniff your tail pipe ):h
