Hi, im looking to possibly re-power my 87 gmc 1500 with a cummins 4-bt not that there is anything wrong with my 6.2 its just that i want a turbocharger and more power (bang for my buck) So what are the capabilities of the cummins 4-bt such as horsepower and tourque numbers, and what transmission would you guys reccommned because i already have a 4-speed so i would like to stick with a man. tran.

Thanks,
Ben

they use the 4 bt's in bread trucks so it should have the power to move the pickup.

just about anything that can be done to the bigger cummins found in the Dodges can be done to the smaller 4cyl. Find one with a p-pump and you are in. Injectors from bigger cummins, delivery valves from bigger cummins and I think even fuel plates from the bigger cummins would work. Of course you can adapters made to fit as much of a turbo on it as you want. Bump the timing a bit and I don't see why you can't make a hot little 300rwhp engine that still has plenty of longevity to last a good long while. I'd probably try and get an intercooler in the mix as well.
