Hey Kirk, I have the Edge w/*** and always ran it in Lv 2-3 with not to much difference in mileage, maybe .5 - 1 mph jump if that. I read that someone had it in Lv 5 and decent mileage gains. I decided to do this and noticed a 2 - 2.5 mile in mileage jump, but this is driving Ms. Daisy home. I have no tranny upgrades either, but I am quite carefully not to depress the pedal more than 1/4 of the way 99.95% of the time taking off. If you can't keep stay off of it and you have 4 lvs to work with, try 3 to see if this works for you? When I know my lead foot is rearing it's big toe and driving in town I will set back on Lv 3. Just my .2

I run the edge on lvl 6 24-7 and gained almost 3mpg on average, even more on highway.

I run my evo on level 3 and that seems to do pretty well. It seems to defuel kinda bad but just for regular driving I think it is the best. I havent tried level 1 or 4 yet. I run 3 all the time regularly and 2 when I tow.

I got the best economy on level 1, both towing and empty.

Depends how you drive it. If your just cruisin you should be fine. But it your racing from red light to red light I would say yeah. You could atleast do a Transgo Jr. which is cheap and a little insurance for ya.

I had mine on for almost 15,000 miles with no problems, only mod I had was the Transgo jr. My trans gave out at the drag stip b/c I reved it too high while staging it. Had I not done that I would assume my trans would have lasted alot longer.

evolution stage 4 will eat your tranny eventually....
more than 70HP will kill it slowely...

Eventually any trans will fail. Pumping more power than stock through it will accelerate that process. Running higher power levels will allow for higher increases in mileage, if you can stay out of the pedal. If you can't, run a lower level and look into a Transgo Jr kit (might want to do the transgo anyways). This will delay the inevitable while allowing for some peace of mind. Just be cautious. Treat her well, she'll return the favor.... for a while.
